As a long-time Outlander fan, it feels like I’ve lost a dear friend as the cast and crew bid their farewells to this extraordinary series. From its debut in 2014, Outlander has been more than just a TV show for me; it’s been an enchanting journey through time, history, and emotions that I’ve shared with my fellow fans worldwide.
It’s one thing to be aware that Outlander will conclude, but it’s a completely different matter to witness the clear signs from actors like Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe. However, as the saying goes, all good things must eventually end, and this is exactly what’s happening with Starz’s main TV series. Over the weekend, the cast and crew shared their farewell messages on social media.
The drama, “Outlander” Season 7 (Part 2), is about to have an extended broadcast before its conclusion. It’s slated for the 2025 TV schedule, followed by Season 8. Despite this, the production process requires time for editing and assembly, and filming has recently been completed by the cast and crew. This weekend, showrunner Matthew B. Roberts confirmed that the series is now officially wrapped up, expressing gratitude to the team, fans, and Scotland in a heartfelt post. He described it as an “unforgettable journey.
Bidding farewell to Scotland, I hope it’s not a permanent goodbye, as it seems I’m leaving so much more than just a geographical location. A place that was once a distant land across the globe has transformed into a true home for me. From the very beginning, the warm-hearted Scots welcomed us, a modest group of Americans from Los Angeles, with open arms. They didn’t merely allow us to film there; they embraced us, showed us their breathtaking landscapes and rich culture, and made us feel as if we were an integral part of their community. Working on Outlander has been an unforgettable adventure.
He also wrote the series has “changed” him “both personally and professionally” and had fond thoughts about starting as a writer and shifting into the showrunner role later. His words spoke to the “brilliant cast and the crew” and also the fans who have “kept us going and made this all possible.” See his full Instagram post.
If I hadn’t already felt emotional before reaching the end of his three-part comment, I most definitely did afterwards. However, he isn’t the only member of the Outlander clan wrapping up this week. Over the weekend, Sam Heughan also posted, and while it’s unfortunate that it’s more about a tricorn hat than a kilt, his feelings were just as poignant. The actor expressed that it was “difficult to say goodbye,” which is understandable.

The TV series has been broadcast since August 2014, with filming commencing almost a year prior in October 2013. Stars like Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have been involved since the show’s debut, marking over a decade for them in this production. This is quite a substantial portion of their careers dedicated to a single show. For these two main actors, the role significantly boosted their profiles in mainstream Hollywood.
For Balfe, the theme she really wanted to hammer home after pickups and reshoots were finally over was how much playing Claire changed her life. Her post also spoke to the fans, cast and crew, though I like how she shouted out Ron Moore and Diana Gabaldon too. Classy move.

Over the past couple of weeks, Outlander has been gradually winding up its filming process and the regular shooting for Season 8 concluded on September 27th. Sophie Skelton, who portrays Brianna Randall Fraser in the series, expressed her feelings after wrapping up earlier, but her message mirrored what the rest of the cast seemed to be experiencing this weekend.

Furthermore, the actors also posted an amusing video recently when others were wrapping up a few weeks back, where they confessed items they coveted from the Outlander set. Consequently, it seems that fans have been taking their time to bid farewell to the series. However, there’s still more to look forward to with the Season 7, Part 2 premiere scheduled for November 22.
Now, Starz, can we please can we get more Spartacus updates?
