As a long-time fan of Stranger Things and someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of Dungeons & Dragons, I couldn’t be more excited about the upcoming comic book prequel, The Rise of Hellfire. Eddie Munson’s metalhead charm and his band of misfit friends have always been a highlight for me, and I can’t wait to see how it all began.
The character Eddie Munson from the series ‘Stranger Things’ will appear in a comic book prequel titled “The Rise of Hellfire,” before the final season airs next year. While it may not be what fans initially expected, there is still a possibility that he might return in some capacity during Season 5. However, specific details about his role remain under wraps at this point.
According to Digital Spy’s report, Dark Horse Comics – known for producing comic books based on popular IPs like Star Wars and Buffy the Vampire Slayer – has collaborated with Dungeons & Dragons to create a new prequel comic book. This comic book will delve into the origins of the Hellfire Club, the band of outcasts who made geeks trendy in Stranger Things’ fourth season. In this series, viewers can witness the beginning as metalhead Eddie convinces Lucas, Mike, and Dustin to participate in lengthy Dungeons & Dragons gaming sessions. As per the official summary:
Before they encountered actual monsters in their real lives, the destinies of the Stranger Things boys were molded by their skill with spells, their prowess with swords, and the unpredictable influence of dice rolls.
This comic combines stories showcasing Eddie Munson’s ascension as an unofficial leader within the Hellfire Club, recollections of the epic D&D experience that sparked his passion, the enlistment of Lucas, Dustin, and Mike, and brief peeks into the magical realms they conquered jointly.
In February 2025, “The Rise of Hellfire” is scheduled for release. This four-issue comic book series is penned by Jody Houser and Eric Campbell. Houser has been inspired by the fourth season of “Stranger Things” to merge the universe of the Duffer Bros.’ series with that of Dungeons & Dragons, a world she finds significant.
As someone well-versed in the bonding power of Dungeons & Dragons and its ability to foster storytelling, I found myself deeply immersed in the narrative of Hawkins. The moment I laid eyes on Stranger Things Season 4, it was clear that the tale of Eddie Munson and the Hellfire Club would serve as a captivating follow-up to our collaborative Stranger Things & Dungeons & Dragons miniseries.
Beginning in 2018, Houser has been penning comic book adaptations of “Stranger Things” for Dark Horse. To date, six series have been credited to her, with the intriguing crossover between “Stranger Things” and “Dungeons & Dragons” among them. The upcoming series, titled “The Rise of Hellfire“, promises to continue in the vein of its predecessors.
Stranger Things Season 5: The Epic Finale of a TV Milestone
Despite no confirmed premiere date for Stranger Things Season 5, anticipation remains high. Rumors from the set hint at a series finale unlike any other, featuring episodes that could span the length of a feature film. However, should fans hope for the return of Eddie, it might not be an effortless task for writers to incorporate him if they decide to bring him back.
In contrast, the Upside Down remains largely uncharted territory in storytelling terms. It’s uncertain who or what can endure there and whether anyone can be resurrected, though with a tainted spirit. For the moment, we must be content with following Eddie’s escapades through comic books. Yet, let’s remain optimistic that we’ll witness Eddie playing his Master of Puppets solo once more, even in the afterlife.
