Popular anime franchise Ghost in the Shell will be launched as NFT collection on Oct. 31

As a crypto investor with a soft spot for Japanese pop culture, I find the upcoming Ghost in the Shell NFT collection by Animoca Brands Japan particularly exciting. Being an 80’s baby and growing up on the original manga and anime series, this collaboration feels like a nostalgic nod to my youth. The fact that it’s part of their AnimeTraits series, promising potential collaborations with more beloved franchises, makes it even more intriguing.

Animoca Brands Japan is preparing to debut a set of unique, non-interchangeable digital tokens based on the well-known Japanese cyberpunk series, Ghost in the Shell. These tokens are scheduled to be released on the Ethereum blockchain from October 31 onwards.

As stated in a press release dated October 25th, the Ghost in the Shell collection encompasses 500 distinct Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) that showcase characters from the 1995 animated film adaptation of the 1989 manga series penned by Masamune Shirow.

As an analyst, I’m excited to announce that I will be participating in the launch of the Ghost in the Shell NFT collection on Animoca Brands Japan’s NFT trading platform, SORAH. The sale commences on October 31st at 12:00 JST. Notably, this platform employs a lottery sales model and a first-come-first-served approach, utilizing the Allow List, or priority purchase rights, to ensure fairness and accessibility for all participants.

The NFTs will be built using the Ethereum(ETH) protocol’s ERC-721 NFT standard and sold for ETH 0.018 per token or equal to $45.16 per token based on the current price. The Ghost in the Shell pack will be the first installment of its NFT series “AnimeTraits” in which Animoca plans to collaborate with more fan-favorite anime and manga franchises to create NFT collections that it will launch in the future.

Animoca announced that starting October 31st, AnimeTraits will let you personalize your profile pictures using elements from popular Japanese anime characters. Make sure to check it out on SORAH!

In this X post, you’ll find a video clip that recreates a memorable moment from the 1995 movie remake. The protagonist, Major Motoko Kusanagi, is depicted tumbling down a building in the scene. Following this, there’s a switch to another shot showcasing a distinctive three-eyed, pink mascot character – a member of the Mocaverse, which was an earlier NFT collection by Animoca Brands, featuring 8,888 distinct characters.

Terrific announcement! The initial AnimeTraits assortment inspired by “GHOST IN THE SHELL” (1995) will be up for grabs shortly 🎉

In addition to their Mocaverse products, the company will provide personalization choices for owners of these offerings, as well as those who possess both CoolCats and San FranTokyo collections. Back in November 2023, Animoca formed partnerships with CoolCats Group and San FranTokyo.

According to the company’s announcement, it is possible for users to buy the new costume designs as merchandise directly on the AnimeTraits online shop.

Originating in 1989, Ghost in the Shell is a renowned Japanese cyberpunk comic book series, created and illustrated by Masamune Shirow. This manga has been transformed into various anime adaptations, with the 1995 film version directed by Mamoru Oshii being the most well-known.

The movie takes place in 2029, in a made-up location called New Port City. The leading character is Motoko Kusanagi, a cyborg public enforcement officer, who seeks to capture the elusive hacker, referred to as the Puppet Master. The film delves into thought-provoking topics revolving around personal identity within a technologically advanced society.

It has been revealed on May 25th that a fresh television series based on the anime classic, Ghost in the Shell, is currently being developed. The renowned Japanese animation company, Science Saru, will be responsible for its production, and it’s anticipated that the show will make its debut in the year 2026.
