'John Abraham didn't talk to me for 2-3 months after Satyameva Jayate 2's failure' says director Milap Zaveri: 'The love I had for him backfired'

As a devoted admirer of the captivating world of Bollywood, I have witnessed the highs and lows of numerous film journeys, but none quite like John Abraham’s. The man who effortlessly transitioned from model to actor, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts with his powerful performance in Satyameva Jayate.

In the movie Satyameva Jayate, John Abraham delivered a striking performance that earned him widespread admiration, contributing significantly to its blockbuster status and strengthening his reputation as an action star. Regrettably, the sequel, Satyameva Jayate 2, which showcased John in multiple roles, did not match the original’s success. The film’s ambitious concept ultimately proved problematic, leading to a less-than-satisfactory response from audiences. Lately, director Milap Zaveri has expressed that their communication broke down for several months, and his affection for John unfortunately led to this disconnect.

During a recent chat with Siddharth Kanan, Milap Zaveri, the director of Satyameva Jayate 2, openly talked about the movie’s poor performance. He humbly admitted that some viewers felt he had excessively focused on John Abraham, even going as far as referring to John as his “Ram” and himself as “Hanuman.

Zaveri pondered over the fact that it seemed like he was trying to bring attention to all three Johns, particularly John Abraham, in every opportunity available. Moreover, he pointed out with a chuckle that none of them were picking up their phones at present, suggesting they had chosen to remain unreachable for now.

He expressed how much John meant to him, comparing him to legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, stating that he owes his current position to John.

In simpler terms, Zaveri compared John to a superstar and a hero with amazing abilities, even going so far as to say he was like The Hulk. However, during the production of the film, Zaveri admitted that he may have overstated things because at that time, John wasn’t quite as self-assured as Zaveri believed him to be.

In a different take: The director intended to demonstrate John’s multi-talented acting abilities, emphasizing that he could fight, dance, and speak convincingly. However, Zaveri confessed that his fondness for John had its drawbacks, as he believed John was disappointed and wounded due to the movie’s poor performance.

Even so, Zaveri affirmed their continued friendship and communication, although it’s not as tight-knit as it once was. He voiced his ambition to collaborate with John once more and disclosed that he has penned an impactful action screenplay for him.

During a span of approximately two to three months, Milap shared, The Vedaa actor seemed rather quiet. He attempted to connect via text messages, and John responded, expressing his deep sadness. He mentioned this sorrow stemmed from the fact that he had put considerable effort into the film, but was disheartened by its final result.

After taking some time apart, I reached out and we managed to mend our relationship. I made it clear that I’m ready and eager to work together again in the future.
