Phantom Wallet Faces Downtime During Grass Token Airdrop

As a seasoned crypto investor who’s weathered more than a few storms in this volatile market, I can’t help but feel a sense of déjà vu when incidents like the Phantom Wallet downtime occur. The Grass token airdrop, while exciting for many, seems to have overwhelmed the system, causing temporary chaos for users trying to claim their tokens.

For a moment, the widely-used digital wallet known as Phantom Wallet, operating within the Solana network, encountered some temporary unavailability due to the distribution of Grass tokens.

Recently, Phantom informed users on their official X platform that they were dealing with a service interruption due to an “unexpected outage,” causing certain features to momentarily halt operation.

The Grass token is linked to a Solana-based AI data layer called Grass Network, with 2 million active users set to receive tokens.

Following the initiation of the airdrop, numerous users simultaneously attempted to secure their tokens, leading to an overload on Phantom’s systems and causing them to malfunction. As a result, the wallet has been inoperable for approximately 2 hours, according to Phantom’s official status page, which classified this event as a significant incident.

As an analyst, I observed that during this period, users encountered challenges like incorrect account balances and struggles in executing immediate transactions promptly.

During an outage, Phantom recommended users to overlook any simulated error messages and proposed utilizing a decentralized application (dApp) as an alternative to prevent interruptions.

Luckily, Phantom confirmed they’ve addressed those problems, and all operations are running smoothly once more. Moreover, their team is committed to keeping a close eye on the situation moving forward.
