As a die-hard Blue Bloods fan who has grown up with the Reagan family over the years, hearing about a potential spinoff is like finding a hidden treasure at the bottom of a long-forgotten chest. I’ve been through thick and thin with these characters, their stories woven into my very fabric of Friday nights.
Although numerous shows were axed in 2024, it’s particularly tough when one of my favorites gets canceled. That’s why I was thrilled a few months back when CBS hinted at developing a spinoff for Blue Bloods. Granted, the Reagan family drama is being terminated as the 2024 TV schedule ends, but there have been whispers about a potential spinoff within the same universe. However, I’m curious about what’s happening with CBS now?
Hey there! Just wanted to share some exciting news if you haven’t heard yet. Back in June, Paramount held a shareholders meeting where our Global CEO, Brian Robbins, discussed the amazing franchises we have at CBS. Among other things, he hinted at an upcoming expansion for “Blue Bloods,” sparking speculation about a possible spinoff, prequel, or something similar. I can hardly wait to see what they come up with!
Currently, it’s been verified that Abigail Hawk, one of our cast members, has admitted that those whispers were true – the network had indeed been contemplating a spinoff. While this isn’t entirely the news I would’ve preferred, Abigail shared her thoughts with Hello magazine about it.
Discussions have arisen about a potential spin-off of our show. However, if such a spin-off were to materialize, it would need to occur straight after our series concludes and should not revolve around the Reagans or the NYPD in any way. Instead, it could be set in Los Angeles or focus on a different family entirely.
The theme seems similar to an article TopMob published in July, where a potential timeline for a “Blue Bloods” spinoff was debated. Frankly, it seemed more distant than we initially expected, possibly due to the cop drama’s consistent success on Friday nights in the ratings this season, or perhaps because the network moved swiftly to launch multiple “NCIS” series. However, I had hoped for a clearer timeline or plan.
Previously, Donnie Wahlberg hinted that the final episode of Bloods will air this year, but he added “there might be something fantastic for Bloods fans after that.” I’ve kept my fingers crossed that there could be more, and if so, it seems like it could be a spin-off called Blue Bloods: LA or another series featuring a new cast, similar to what they’re doing with the Suits: LA spinoff as it gets renewed. However, it’s worth mentioning that Ms. Hawk also emphasized how much fans love this drama, echoing recent statements by Tom Selleck and other cast members about its enduring popularity.
CBS has the freedom to make their own decisions, yet I fervently hope they understand both the commercial success and deep affection for Blue Bloods. This show possesses a remarkable staying power, not just due to its commercial viability, but also because it resonates with audiences worldwide on a universal level – family – and there are many more heartfelt stories yet to be shared.
Even if we receive additional episodes, they’re unlikely to be a sequel or prequel to the Reagans, as fans have become particularly fond of this family. The scenes around the dinner table that usually start and end each episode are a big part of why it resonates with viewers. However, there’s still hope that the network might change its decision. We’ll keep you updated as usual.
