Anyone But You Was A Massive Success For Sydney Sweeney, And Apparently Madame Web Played A Big Role In Making That Happen

As a seasoned gamer who has seen countless films, both critically acclaimed and box office bombs, I must say that Sydney Sweeney’s journey in Hollywood is nothing short of fascinating. While her performances in “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus” were undoubtedly captivating, it was the last 12 months that truly catapulted her to stardom.

Over the past year, Sydney Sweeney’s film career has experienced a remarkable boost in popularity. She initially gained this momentum with her performance opposite Glen Powell in the successful release of “Anyone But You.” However, the poorly received and box office flop “Madame Web,” which is part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe franchise, came shortly after. Interestingly enough, it’s said that the production of the romantic comedy was made possible due to the success of “Madame Web.” This can all be streamed with a Max subscription, where you can also find her starring roles in “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus” Season 1.

The report highlights that Sweeney will earn $7.5 million for her role in the Lionsgate thriller titled “The Housemaid,” significantly more than her previous film “Anyone But You.” According to THR, Sweeney agreed to star in another project, “Madame Web,” primarily to boost its production. Reportedly, she aimed to demonstrate her cooperation to Sony Pictures. Despite “Madame Web” earning only slightly over $100 million from a budget of $80 million, Sweeney received a payment of $750,000 for her performance as Julia Cornwall (Julia Carpenter in the comics).

Given the disappointing box office reception and widespread criticism towards Madame Web, it seems unlikely that Sydney Sweeney’s character will reunite with Dakota Johnson’s Cassandra Webb, Isabela Merced’s Anya Corazón, and Celeste O’Connor’s Mattie Franklin in future installments. This is despite the hints dropped at the end of the film. In March, Sweeney admitted that as an actress playing a character, she was simply along for the ride and would adapt to whatever was to come.

If we take the data from this report as true, it seems that Madame Web was primarily used to kickstart Anyone But You, with Sydney Sweeney, who also served as an executive producer for the rom-com, ultimately achieving her goal. Despite receiving a mixed response from critics, Anyone But You managed to rake in over $220 million globally on a production budget of just $25 million, making it a surprise success. A prolonged version of the film was even screened in cinemas a few days before Valentine’s Day.

After wrapping up “Anyone But You” and “Madame Web,” I’ve had the pleasure of joining the cast for the horror flick “Immaculate.” My latest project, “Eden,” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, and I’m thrilled to announce that “Echo Valley” and an upcoming biopic about boxer Christy Martin are on the horizon. The $7.5 million budget for “The Housemaid” is a testament to my rising demand following the success of “Anyone But You.” So, despite the challenges presented by “Madame Web,” it seems that some positive outcomes have emerged, as this rom-com was given the green light thanks in part to its production.

Both Anyone But You and Madame Web can be streamed with a Netflix subscription. If you’d rather look ahead to the cinematic future, consult our 2024 movies schedule and 2025 movies schedule.
