Nora Fatehi compares Bollywood to high school cliques; says ‘if you don’t prove yourself or you don’t learn Hindi...'

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for understanding people’s journeys, I find Nora Fatehi’s story incredibly inspiring. Her ability to navigate through the high school-like dynamics of Bollywood, drawing parallels from her experiences in Canada and Saudi Arabia, is truly commendable.

Nora Fatehi, famous for her captivating dance routines and acting talents, is recognized for her bold character. Reflecting on her Bollywood journey, she likened the industry to a popular high school crowd. However, having navigated these challenges earlier, it now makes her current experience smoother. Moreover, she highlighted that actors from foreign lands who neglect learning Hindi often struggle in the industry.

During an open conversation with film critic and journalist Rajeev Masand at the 15th Indian Film Festival Of Melbourne, the actress shared her experiences and struggles throughout her career in the Hindi movie business.

Born and bred in Canada, Nora Fatehi spent some time living in Saudi Arabia as well. Reflecting on her high school years in these two nations, she recounted instances where established groups of students would form exclusive cliques, making it challenging for newcomers like herself to join them.

Based on her comprehension of that circumstance, she finds Bollywood analogous and had a sense of returning to it when she joined the entertainment field. Yet, she utilized that encounter to carve out a path for herself within the industry.

She stated, “Bollywood is somewhat akin to high school because many of these groups have known each other since they were children. However, if you’ve navigated it once before, it seems manageable again. As an outsider, if you don’t show your worth or learn Hindi, blend in and demonstrate that ‘I can be like you,’ there’s no chance for entry.

In her statement, the actress from the Magdaon Express explained that she doesn’t hold Bollywood accountable since it operates similarly to a corporation, and in order for her to prosper within it, she needs to acquire necessary skills and insights. Instead of joining her fellow models in club outings for entertainment, she chose to analyze industry trends and patterns.

Through her research, the actress from Bharat found that newcomers in the Industry often struggle to sustain their success and eventually fade away within a year or more. She expressed, “That’s when I realized something crucial: if a non-Indian actor fails in Bollywood, it’s usually because they didn’t learn Hindi or adapt to the culture.

Nora made clear that these foreign performers intentionally present themselves as Americans or Canadians, but their native language and dialect often expose them as non-native speakers. This could potentially explain why they haven’t found great success in the industry.
