James Gunn Denies a Justice League: The New Frontier DCU Movie is Coming

As a dedicated fan who has witnessed the highs and lows of DC Comics’ cinematic universe over the past few decades, I can confidently say that James Gunn’s approach to the new DC Universe is nothing short of refreshing. His transparency in debunking false rumors and his emphasis on taking things slow and steady are exactly what this franchise needs after the hasty and tumultuous journey of the previous attempt at an expanded universe.

As a passionate movie reviewer, I’m thrilled to share my insights on the upcoming changes in the DC Comics universe under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran. Unlike previous iterations, these superheroes will embark on their individual journeys, at least for now, in this reimagined cinematic universe.

In this instance, James Gunn is debunking baseless rumors concerning the upcoming DC Universe. Previously, as director and co-president of DC Studios, he has clarified Batman casting speculations and explained Aaron Pierre’s selection for John Stewart in Lanterns. Now, his focus is shifting towards the Justice League – the initial major collaboration in the comic book world.

In response to a fan’s report about “Justice League: The New Frontier” being in development, Gunn expressed a regretful but understanding reaction. Contrary to the report, Gunn clarified that he is not involved in the project, stating, “Nope sorry. No truth to this whatsoever.” However, Gunn expressed his fondness for the comic book “New Frontier,” revealing that it has significantly influenced some of the upcoming projects at DC Studios. Gunn further added:

“That said I love New Frontier and its magical alternate history is a big influence on DC Studios.”

DC Studios Shouldn’t Rush Their Justice League Movie

Enthusiasts are already buzzing about the possibility of David Corenswet’s Superman joining forces with Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart in the Justice League. However, the new DC Studios should learn from past mistakes in franchise development. The previous DCEU, under Zack Snyder’s leadership, struggled to keep pace with the MCU. In its eagerness to outdo the MCU, the DCEU hastily introduced key characters, and their Justice League movie faced numerous issues, such as Joss Whedon’s involvement from The Avengers.

It would be advantageous for the fresh DC Universe to have a “Justice League” collaborative film, however, it’s crucial to introduce all significant characters initially. Next year, Superman will debut on the big screen, with Batman following suit in a few years. However, other key figures such as Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, and The Flash require time to develop their individual reasons for joining the team. Above all, James Gunn needs to create a formidable villain that can only be defeated by the entire team (preferably not another version of Doomsday or Steppenwolf).
