As a die-hard Star Wars fan who’s been through the highs and lows of this epic saga since I first saw A New Hope at the tender age of five, I have to admit, I’m both excited and apprehensive about Simon Kinberg taking on the Skywalker Saga. On one hand, his work on the X-Men films showed a keen understanding of complex universes and interconnected narratives. On the other, the last thing I want is another Jar Jar Binks or Midi-chlorians situation.
Similar to the weathered remains of Emperor Palpatine, the Star Wars Saga is set for a revival once more. According to reports, Lucasfilm is busy crafting a new Star Wars trilogy that falls within the Skywalker Saga, and they’ve enlisted an experienced veteran from the X-Men universe to create what’s being called Episodes 10-12 in this legendary series.
As per the latest reports, Simon Kinberg, known for his work on the X-Men films, has been recruited by Lucasfilm to create a fresh trilogy within the Star Wars universe, continuing the Skywalker Saga. Previously, Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, expressed the importance of moving beyond the Skywalker Saga, although she did hint at potential future explorations related to the Skywalker family tree. With multiple new films in production, such as a standalone movie for Rey directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and The Mandalorian & Grogu from Lucasfilm’s Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni, it appeared that Lucasfilm was steering clear of the Skywalker narrative, which concluded with the controversial Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.
