As a long-time fan who has witnessed Ariana Grande‘s remarkable journey from Broadway to pop stardom and back again, I find her decision to reconnect with musical theater truly heartwarming. Her love for acting and musical theater is not just a phase or a passing fancy; it’s a part of her that began at the tender age of 15 on the stage of Broadway.
Ariana Grande is looking to return to her first love: musical theater.
The Grammy-winning vocalist, starring as Glinda in Jon M. Chu’s stage-to-screen version of the Tony Award-winning musical “Wicked”, recently shared on the “Las Culturistas” podcast that making this film was a healing journey which has sparked thoughts about rekindling her connection with the world of theatre.
She shared something that might be quite startling to her fans and many others. However, she has faith in their resilience and that we’ll all weather this together. She emphasized her unwavering commitment to creating music, performing, and engaging in pop culture. Yet, she expressed that the pace she’s been maintaining for the last decade might not be sustainable for the next, and that’s where her focus lies.
Back in 2008, I graced the Broadway stage for the first time at just 15 years old, starring in the musical “13”. Later on, you might’ve seen me on Nickelodeon’s “Victorious” and its spin-off “Sam & Cat”. Then, in 2013, I stepped into the music world with my debut album, “Yours Truly”.
Grande openly confessed her affection for acting and musical theater. She expressed that revisiting the aspect of herself who initially thrived in musical theater and found humor appealing, brings comfort to her. Finding roles that allow her to utilize these facets of herself and create unique characters is therapeutic for her.
As a gamer, I find immersing myself in different game worlds offers a unique escape compared to crafting my own characters and narratives. It’s not just about solving puzzles or battling enemies; it’s like stepping into someone else’s story, living through their triumphs and tribulations – a refreshing change from constantly revisiting the themes I explore in my personal songwriting.
Ever since I first laid eyes on the Broadway musical “Wicked” at age ten, it’s left an indelible mark on my life. Learning that I was cast as Glinda in the upcoming film adaptation felt like the most extraordinary moment, truly the pinnacle of my life so far.
On November 22, 2024, the initial showing of the movie Wicked will take place in cinemas, featuring Ariana Grande as one of the main characters (Glinda). The second part is scheduled for release on November 21, 2025.
