As a long-time devotee of the silver screen and a die-hard Star Wars fan, I must say that the upcoming release of Andor on Disney+ has me utterly enthralled! The anticipation for this prequel/spin-off series has been building since the conclusion of its first season, and I can hardly contain my excitement as we draw closer to April 22, 2025.
As a devoted Star Wars enthusiast, I can’t hide my excitement as Lucasfilm has officially announced the release date for Andor on Disney+. A thrilling prequel/spin-off to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Andor delves into the life of Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna), tracing his transformation from a mere citizen to a key member of the Rebel Alliance. Critics have hailed it as one of the finest Star Wars television series ever produced, with many comparing it favorably to some of the franchise’s most celebrated films.
On the Disney+ app, Screen Rant previously displayed a poster for Andor that read “Season 2 coming April 22.” This date has been removed since then. If the release date is accurate, the second season of Andor will debut approximately two years and five months following the conclusion of Season 1 on November 23, 2022. Initially, it’s unknown if Disney+ plans to release the first three episodes of Andor Season 2 together in a similar fashion as they did with the initial season.
It would be strategically smart to set the premiere date for Season 2 of Andor on April 22, 2025. This timing aligns with the Star Wars Celebration in Japan from April 18-20, 2025, allowing attendees to be among the first to watch the first episode. Additionally, this release date appears to correspond with the conclusion of Disney+’s other significant series, Daredevil: Born Again, which is set to finish its nine-episode run following its debut on March 4, 2025. This scheduling ensures that these two highly anticipated series from Disney’s prominent brands won’t clash as they did in 2022 with the simultaneous airings of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ms. Marvel.
2025 Will Be Light on Star Wars, But Andor Is More Than Enough
Initially, the show Andor was intended to span five seasons, each season representing a year leading up to the events of Rogue One. However, the creator decided to extend Season 2 to cover four years instead because they found the initial five-year plan too challenging given the grand scale of the series. This change proved beneficial as Disney seems to be reducing production on Star Wars television shows and focusing more on feature films since then. As of now, Andor is the only Star Wars series scheduled for release in 2025, with Skeleton Crew finishing its eight-episode run in January 2025 after premiering in December 2024. The next Star Wars series following Andor is expected to be Season 2 of Ashoka, which won’t air until 2026.
In 2025, Disney+ may not have many fresh Star Wars series, but it’s set to compensate with a multitude of Marvel Television shows. The anticipated series, Andor, will be sandwiched between the releases of Daredevil: Born Again in March 2025 and Ironheart in June 2025. Furthermore, viewers can expect to see Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man in January, Eyes of Wakanda in August, Marvel Zombies in October, and Wonder Man in December 2025. By then, fans should have a clear picture of the future direction for Star Wars films, and perhaps some exciting new Star Wars television announcements to eagerly anticipate as well.
