Death Stranding 5th Anniversary: Hideo Kojima Celebrates

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that Hideo Kojima’s work has always been a game-changer for me. From the intricate storylines to the immersive gameplay, his creations have left an indelible mark on the gaming industry.

Legendary video game designer Hideo Kojima spent decades collaborating with Konami, developing the popular Metal Gear Solid series. More recently, he established his independent studio, Kojima Productions, and launched their debut title, the critically-acclaimed indie game, Death Stranding.

Initially, the game sparked controversy upon its release; however, many critics have since hailed it as a masterpiece. Now, five years after Death Stranding’s debut, creator Kojima is taking a moment to commemorate this significant achievement for his cherished creation, as a sequel is now in development.

Death Stranding 5th Anniversary

Kojima recently posted on his socials a celebration of the fifth anniversary of DS.

In the announcement, Kojima joyfully shares that the game has surpassed 19 million copies sold globally since its launch five years ago. He doesn’t reveal much about the sequel, but he does confirm that Development Stage 2 (DS2) is currently undergoing a crucial development phase.

He expresses, “You’ve all been playing the game for quite some time now, and I appreciate that. Currently, we are developing ‘Death Stranding 2.’ As I’ve shared on various platforms, this is a crucial stage in development. We’re constructing the game, and at the moment, I have a strong positive outlook about it. I am optimistic that it will turn out to be a fantastic project. Unfortunately, we haven’t revealed the release date yet, but please stay excited about it.

There is also a video released celebrating all the fans who have played the game over the years:

What Do We Know about Death Stranding 2: On the Beach?

Similar to the initial installment, the storyline for the sequel is intentionally left mysterious for marketing purposes. However, based on clues gathered by fans, it appears that our protagonist, Sam, has departed from what remains of the USA and embarked on a journey aboard a vessel. The objective of this voyage seems to be uniting the rest of the world.

In the game, a fresh team assists Sam during his mission, and there’s a chatty doll that Sam can carry with him. This doll offers amusing remarks and background information as Sam embarks on various missions.

A captivating and unique feature unveiled for the game is the photo mode. In keeping with Kojima’s signature style, the photo mode for Death Stranding 2 has been set apart. Rather than allowing players to pause the game and manipulate the camera, this game’s photo mode will employ an in-game camera that functions in the world, causing characters to strike poses when Sam directs the camera towards them.

Additionally, the game accurately replicates the unpredictable lighting conditions typical of camera usage, which greatly enhances the realism of its photo mode. Furthermore, users are allowed to share their in-game photos on a virtual bulletin board.

There’s currently no definite timeline for the major unveiling of “Death Stranding 2,” but it’s likely that we might get a release date announcement by the end of this year, possibly coinciding with The Game Awards.

There’s no confirmed launch date yet for “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach”, but enthusiasts are anticipating that it will be released some time in the upcoming year.
