As an ardent fan of Ajay Devgn, witnessing his journey from the silver screen to the production house has been nothing short of inspiring. The resilience he showcases in the face of adversity is truly commendable. The story of Raju Chacha, a film that didn’t quite hit the mark at the box office, yet served as a valuable lesson for Ajay, is a testament to his integrity and compassion.
Initially, Ajay Devgn made his mark in the entertainment industry as an actor. Later, around the same time, he teamed up with his father and action director Veeru Devgn for film production. However, their 2000 movie Raju Chacha faced a severe setback at the box office, hindering Ajay’s progress in this new field. Lately, Ajay shared an emotional story about Johny Lever, who declined his payment for his role. Despite Ajay’s insistence, he honored his request and again, when offering All The Best to Johny, he made it clear that he wouldn’t accept a penny from him.
Recently, Ajay Devgn and his longtime collaborator, director Rohit Shetty, had a chat following the release of their movie “Singham Again” in an interview conducted by Ranveer Allahbadia.
In our chat, they mentioned an arduous period when the actor made one of the costliest movies in 2000 titled “Raju Chacha.” Unfortunately, this film didn’t fare well at cinemas.
Rohit Shetty disclosed that, although the movie didn’t achieve great success even with a large budget, the actor in Tanhaji experienced substantial financial losses. In response, he dedicated himself to working on numerous other projects following the disappointment, aiming to prevent any additional team members from experiencing the financial burden of these losses.
In this endeavor, the individual was quite frugal with personal expenses. As Shetty pointed out, he had kept his vehicle and mobile phone the same for a long time.
In the movie Drishyam, the star actor credited the comedian Johnny Lever for not demanding his fee despite the financial setbacks, as he had an important part in the film.
Even though Devgn initially declined payment, he was ultimately compensated for his work. Later, when another film, All The Best, was offered to him, the comic actor once more turned down the money, remembering the time Devgn had covered his costs despite suffering significant financial losses.
Ajay Devgn stated, “Initially, we compensated him for the role of Raju Chacha. Later, we approached him with the offer for All The Best. He agreed to star in the movie under one stipulation: he would not accept any payment for his performance.
Because the actor from Bol Bachchan not only starred in it but also produced All The Best, the comedian’s kind act deeply moved Ajay. He acknowledged, “He truly embodies integrity.
In case you’re unfamiliar, the 2000 movie “Raju Chacha,” produced by Ajay Devgn, was actually directed by his first cousin, Anil Devgan. The film boasted a star-studded cast with Kajol, Rishi Kapoor, and Johny Lever in prominent roles.
