Outer Banks Season 4, Volume 2 Just Debuted, But I Already Have Theories About Season 5

As a die-hard Outer Banks fan who has spent countless hours of my youth binge-watching this show, I was on the edge of my seat waiting for Volume 2 of Season 4 to unfold. But let me tell you, it wasn’t the happy ending I had hoped for – or expected!

Warning: Major Spoilers Ahead For Outer Banks Season 4, Volume 2!

Being an avid admirer of “Outer Banks,” I was certain that Season 4 Volume 2 would offer a thrilling journey once it became available on Netflix’s premiere calendar, following the tough predicament the Pogues found themselves in after the events of Volume 1. Despite my lofty expectations, I was disappointed to find no fulfillment of my desired plot twists. Instead, the series took an unexpected turn when one of the Pogues suffered a heart-wrenching death, setting the stage for revenge among the remaining friends as the closing credits unfurled.

As the dust settles from the jaw-dropping events of Season 4, my imagination is already running wild, concocting theories about the thrilling twists and turns that await us in the next installment, Season 5.

The Pogues Are Going To Have Second Thoughts About How To Avenge JJ

Following JJ’s tragic death at the hands of his biological father, Groff, the Pogues and Rafe are depicted burying JJ in an unidentified grave in the Moroccan desert. It is Rafe who breaks the silence, expressing that if it were his friend who was just slain, he would seek vengeance against the perpetrator. John B and Pope concur, and the season concludes with Kie pledging retribution against Groff.

In a heated situation, the idea seems completely sound. The Pogues are reeling from their loss, and it seems reasonable to target the individual responsible for their sorrow. Yet, despite their intense dislike for Groff, they are not naturally disposed towards violence or taking a life.

In Season 4, John B.’s hesitation in taking lives was repeatedly demonstrated as he grapples with the prospect of resembling his father. Moreover, while Pope did kill Lightning in the last episode, it’s evident that this choice weighed heavily on him, despite its immense importance to Cleo.

As a devoted fan, I believe Kie isn’t cut from the same cloth as a cold-blooded killer. Though she may come close to taking Groff’s life, I’m convinced she won’t go through with it. Instead, I envision JJ’s voice echoing in her mind, dissuading her from such a perilous act. After all, he never intended for anyone to risk their lives for his sake.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but speculate that the Pogues wouldn’t resort to murdering Groff, as it contradicts their core values. On the other hand, Rafe, with his fluctuating relationship with Kie and his persistent attempts to gain the trust of the Pogues, might just be the one to turn things around by delivering what they desire without forcing them into such dark actions.

Without The OG Pogues, Life In Kildare Is Going To Get Worse

The conflict between the Kooks and the Pogues peaked in Kildare, as the Kooks attempted to reclassify The Cut into a shared living and social area. However, John B and his group have been at the forefront of defending the Pogues’ territory throughout their adult lives. With them absent for an indeterminate period, there is currently no one to prevent developers from encroaching on the land.

There’s also undeniably a strained relationship between the Kooks and Sheriff Shoupe’s police department. Given that Shoupe is precariously positioned with the affluent townsfolk, it seems probable that he will lose his position when they discover he chose to let the Pogues go rather than apprehend them.

In this game of politics, it seems like they’re promoting the guy who took a shot at JJ in Episode 6 to be the Sheriff. Given his allegiance with the Kooks, it’s clear where his loyalties lie. A crooked police force and the Kooks wielding unchecked power feels an awful lot like setting up a catastrophe.

New Group Dynamics Will Emerge As They Hunt Down Groff

With JJ absent and Sarah expecting a baby, the dynamics within The Pogues are expected to change significantly. Throughout this season, Sarah has repeatedly put her life and unborn child at risk in pursuit of the treasure, but I don’t foresee this pattern persisting once she starts showing. John B will find himself caught between his desire for revenge against Groff and his need to support Sarah. In my opinion, the beloved pair on the show may spend a considerable amount of the final season apart, allowing John B to pursue vengeance while ensuring Sarah’s safety.

It seems highly unlikely that the Pogues will want to let Sarah go unaccompanied, wherever they deem it safe for her. While Kie has stepped in to safeguard Sarah and remind her of her pregnancy this season, she’s likely to be consumed by anger and sorrow, making it hard for her to stay out of the action as they pursue Groff. Instead, I anticipate Cleo taking a step back and staying with Sarah as she recovers from a gunshot wound in her arm.

With only three Pogues left – Pogue, John B, and Kie – and Rafe in the picture, they’ll embark on their quest for vengeance. I believe that during most of the final season, John B, Pope, and Kie will remain united. However, Rafe could manage to infiltrate the group, particularly through Kie, as they share a relatively amicable bond. This infiltration might lead to internal conflicts among the four, given their varying strategies for tracking down Groff and exacting revenge. Additionally, John B and Pope may grow wary of the growing bond between Kie and Rafe, considering Kie was once with JJ when he passed away.

The Show Will End Happily With A Time Jump Years Into The Future

It’s still uncertain if the Pogues will find the Blue Crown and claim the reward mentioned in the legend, but no matter what their financial status becomes, I believe the series Outer Banks will have a positive ending.

Instead of Season 3’s minor leap forward in time, I anticipate Season 5 to conclude with a significant time jump, advancing several years ahead. It may seem like an old trope, but I envision a scene where a grown-up John B is putting his child to bed, not from a book, but recounting his thrilling, life-and-death escapades with the Pogues. Just as his father did for him, John B will foster an adventurous spirit in his child. This scene could potentially be the basis of the anticipated OBX spin-off series.

It’s uncertain when Season 5 will air, whether on the 2025 TV schedule or afterwards. Fingers crossed we won’t have to wait much longer to find out how the Pogues’ stories conclude. In the meantime, you can catch up by rewatching the first four seasons with a Netflix membership.
