The Guardian Will Stop Posting on “Toxic Media Platform” X

As a seasoned gamer and digital native who has grown up with social media platforms like Twitter, I must admit that the recent turn of events on this platform has left me quite disheartened. The once vibrant and open space for discussion and debate has now transformed into a chaotic battlefield filled with bots, racism, misinformation, and scams.

The Guardian has declared it will no longer be active on the platform once known as Twitter, UK-based media group revealed on Wednesday.

In a story published Wednesday morning U.K. time, The Guardian announced that it will no longer post to any of its official editorial accounts because they believe the advantages of being on platform X are now overshadowed by the disadvantages, and resources could be more effectively used to promote their journalism elsewhere.

For some time now, The Guardian has been pondering over the decision to cease sharing content on platform X due to the frequently troubling nature of the material it promotes or discovers, such as far-right conspiracies and racist ideologies.

The media collective emphasized that the U.S. presidential election campaign highlighted a long-held belief: that X is a harmful media platform, and its proprietor, Elon Musk, has leveraged its power to mold political discussions.

According to The Guardian, users can continue to post the company’s articles on their platform, and they mentioned that due to the essence of live news reporting, it may occasionally be necessary to incorporate content from X within their article pages.

Following Elon Musk’s $44 billion purchase of Twitter in October 2022, the company significantly reduced its content moderation teams. This change has led to a surge in bots, hate speech, harassment, scams, conspiracy theories, false information, and pornography on the platform. The lack of restrictions on content has resulted in a chaotic situation that has caused many advertisers to abandon the company.
