As a long-time admirer of Takashi Murakami‘s work, I am absolutely thrilled to witness the birth of Ohana Hatake, his latest creative endeavor. Being a connoisseur of all things Japanese and pop culture, I have followed his journey from the flower motifs that adorned his early works to this new chapter named after the beautiful “field of flowers” in Japanese.
Takashi Murakami has unveiled his latest creative endeavor: Ohana Hatake, a groundbreaking footwear brand marking his first foray into this area. The title of this new chapter draws inspiration from Murakami’s famous floral motifs and is reminiscent of the Japanese phrase meaning “field of flowers.
Over the course of the year, the project has been showcased by releasing three exclusive editions. One of these was the Ohana Full-Bloom slides, which were introduced as a partnership with BLACKPINK. Now, the official launch of Ohana Hatake is signified by the creation of two unique designs: new color variations for the Ohana Full-Bloom and a completely new model called Surippa Ohana, both developed in cooperation with footwear specialists at VIOLET ST.
The new Ohana Full-Bloom slides are revealed in two refreshing colorways, coming in “Apricot” and “Raspberry Rose,” both available via a raffle on the brand’s official website. Meanwhile, the first iteration of Surippa Ohana is set to be unveiled later on in a colorway called “Rust.”
Regarding the launch of the Ohana Hatake, Takashi Murakami expressed his intention to create art that delves into the unique bond between American and Japanese cultures. He hopes those who wear these sandals can appreciate the way this team transformed his eccentric, unconventional concepts into something remarkable.
