As someone who has grown up watching the evolution of Hollywood heartthrobs, I must admit that John Krasinski‘s win as People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2024 took me by surprise. While he is undeniably charming and charismatic, I found myself reminiscing about the days of Jim Halpert (his character in The Office) and wondering if the timing was a little off.
Following the aftermath of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, another closely contested title is causing global debate: People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive.” Launched in 1985, this honor represents the pinnacle of male charm, blending physical attractiveness with character. Notable past recipients include George Clooney, Hugh Jackman, Bradley Cooper, Michael B. Jordan, and Jude Law. In a shocking turn of events, John Krasinski has been named this year’s winner.
2024 saw John Krasinski crowned People’s Sexiest Man Alive, a title that sparked much debate among fans. While Krasinski is undeniably a beloved figure, many felt this recognition would have been more fitting between 2006 and 2010 when his character in “The Office” was at its peak popularity. Instead, the public’s preferred choice appeared to be Glen Powell, whose roles in “Anyone but You,” “Hit Man,” and “Twisters” made a significant impact leading up to 2024. Additionally, Manny Jacinto from “The Acolyte” and Pedro Pascal, both of whom will portray Mister Fantastic in the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside Krasinski, were other hot picks. Social media was flooded with reactions, including a nod to Randall Park’s iconic “Office” character Jim and a reference to the “Conclave.
It’s interesting to point out that being named People’s Sexiest Man Alive is an honor one has to agree to receive, and there have been instances where individuals have declined the offer. For quite some time, people have pondered why Ryan Gosling hasn’t received the title. The reason for this is that Gosling has turned down the award on more than one occasion. This doesn’t necessarily mean that Powell, Pascal, Jacinto, or any other actor declined it first and then Krasinski was chosen instead, or that Krasinski was initially People’s top choice. However, it’s a point worth considering.
Ain’t Love in Oklahoma
Remarkably, John Krasinski’s title as People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2024 is surprising given that he has predominantly worked behind the scenes up until now. He produced movies like “A Quiet Place: Day One,” “Apartment 7A,” and directed the film “IF.” In “IF,” Krasinski does make an appearance, but his role is limited, making it all the more astonishing that he managed to outshine more prominent stars this year, such as Glen Powell or previous winners of People’s Sexiest Man Alive, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds from “Deadpool” and “Wolverine.” In fact, Krasinski’s most recent on-screen roles prior to “IF” were in the final season of “Jack Ryan” in 2023 and a cameo as Mister Fantastic in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” from 2022.
John Krasinski has certainly got his hands full! He’s all set to resume his character Jack Ryan in a movie adaptation of the widely-watched Prime Video series. Additionally, he will appear in Guy Ritchie’s film, “The Fountain of Youth,” and is diligently working on the script for “A Quiet Place Part III.” Unfortunately, there’s no confirmed release date yet for this upcoming movie.
