As a gamer who grew up in the golden era of teen TV dramas, I can say that Chad Michael Murray was the epitome of my adolescent dreams. From the walls of my bedroom adorned with magazine cutouts to the countless hours spent re-watching his performances on shows like One Tree Hill, he was a constant presence in my life.
As a child, I was quite fond of collages, and one entire wall in my bedroom was adorned with images from my favorite TV shows, which I had carefully cut out from magazines such as YM, Teen People, and Seventeen. Among them were Tom Welling, Paul Walker, Milo Ventimiglia, Jared Padalecki (being a Gilmore Girls enthusiast), and of course, Chad Michael Murray, my favorite from One Tree Hill. Fast forward to the present, I was pleasantly taken aback this week by an unexpected gift: a monthly calendar featuring Chad Michael Murray in various bowties, showcasing his physique without a shirt.
Netflix has planned a promotional calendar for Chad Michael Murray’s upcoming Christmas film titled “The Merry Gentlemen“, set to debut on their 2024 lineup on November 20th. It might seem like a clever marketing ploy to portray Murray as a Chippendales-like dancer, but it aligns with the movie’s narrative, which we’ll delve into shortly. So, welcome to the inaugural day of “Chad Michael Murray Christmas”!

In a unique twist, the movie “The Merry Gentlemen” showcases the actor as a character who arranges an all-male Christmas performance to prevent a theater from closing down. The theater is significant because it belongs to the parents of Ashley, played by Britt Robertson. Luke, portrayed by Murray, joins Ashley in this thrilling new endeavor, which could also ignite some romantic sparks in her personal life. Joining them are Michael Gross, Maxwell Caulfield, Hector David Jr., Beth Broderick, Colt Prattes, and Marc Anthony Samuel in the star-studded cast.
Over the past few years, Chad Michael Murray has starred in numerous romantic comedies on Hallmark Channel, which I’ve found to be more family-friendly. However, it’s refreshing to see that Netflix is stepping up the attractiveness factor, and judging by the reaction of fans since the first trailer for The Merry Gentlemen, even those who fondly remember his work on One Tree Hill are intrigued by this new project as well.
The film has already been likened to Channing Tatum’s dance-centric series “Magic Mike,” implying that if this trend persists, Murray may return for another installment. Fingers crossed, there might even be a third movie titled “Last Dance.” (I’m optimistic about it.) The actors of “The Merry Gentlemen” have indeed put in the effort, as the actor shared with Netflix a few months back that they actually learned to dance for their new roles.
I’d never attempted anything like this before, but I found myself saying, “Boy, this is terrifying! I simply must give it a try. I reached out to several people and asked for as much practice time as possible. …If you’re going to take on a challenge, you need to commit fully. You have to give it your all. Everyone involved was fantastic.
Well, even if another or third holiday movie doesn’t arise from this one, it’s still valuable to acquire a useful skill. Moreover, fans who have followed Chad Michael Murray since his One Tree Hill era will at least have 12 more months of pleasure derived from this role. Thanks for providing this, Netflix.
