Dwayne Johnson Saw Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolans IMAX Seat

As a film enthusiast who has spent countless hours in dimly lit theaters, I can confidently say that Dwayne Johnson‘s experience watching Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ must have been nothing short of breathtaking. The sheer scale and grandeur of the film, perfectly showcased on the colossal IMAX screen, left an indelible impression on the man they call The Rock.

Dwayne Johnson, a renowned Hollywood actor known for hits such as Fast & Furious, Moana, and Black Adam, had an unusual response after watching Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer in the director’s preferred IMAX seat. He reached out to the director of his upcoming film, Red One, urging the holiday blockbuster to be screened on the largest format available. Although it’s quite ambitious, Red One is not on par with Oppenheimer.

According to Variety, Johnson mentioned during an event that he conversed with IMAX about his experience watching Nolan’s movie, and he expressed that this was what prompted him to reach out to director Jake Kasdan and request that the film Red One be produced in the expansive IMAX format. Apparently, he felt that it was a matter of technology, and if Red One could employ it, then it could produce the same impact globally as Oppenheimer did on audiences worldwide.

In our endeavor with “Red One,” we aimed to create a film that provides an immersive experience best enjoyed on the largest screens available. Ideally, those would be Imax screens. During the production of “Red One,” I had the chance to catch “Oppenheimer” and it was screened at an Imax theater, where Christopher Nolan usually watches and shows his movies, accompanied by Emma, his wife. I even asked if I could sit where Chris usually sits, and they graciously allowed me to do so.

I recently caught the movie “Oppenheimer“. It was truly awe-inspiring, and as I watched, I found myself thinking: “Wow, this is incredible! If “Red One” appears on this screen with this cutting-edge technology, it could potentially mark the end of the game.” I even texted Jake [Kasdan] about it, sending him a picture first of my bare chest, and then a screenshot. Afterwards, we had an exciting conversation about how amazing the upcoming experience is going to be. It’s going to be absolutely fantastic!

Experiencing “Oppenheimer” on the colossal screen was an extraordinary occasion. IMAX truly amplified the spectacle, allowing viewers to behold the creative vision of one of Hollywood’s top directors under the conditions he deemed ideal for viewing his films. It wouldn’t be surprising if Johnson felt the same way. And although it’s customary to applaud (when the credits end), sharing photos of bare chests is rather overzealous.

‘Red One’ Isn’t Exactly Having the Reception ‘Oppenheimer’ Did

Oppenheimer raked in nearly a billion dollars at the box office, returning on its $100 million investment tenfold, thereby validating Nolan’s decision to part ways with Warner Bros. as a smart career move. The film also earned the director an overdue Academy Award for Best Director. It was nominated across 13 categories and bagged seven wins.

The movie titled “Red One” isn’t resonating with both viewers and critics as expected. With an estimated budget of around $250 million, it has managed to generate only about $26 million internationally, suggesting a lackluster performance. Additionally, its anticipated domestic debut in the U.S. this weekend is expected to be underwhelming.

Per our own Julian Roman’s review of Red One:

Red One

Red One is packed with car pursuits, villain battles, and a variety of computer-generated allies. Although it’s quite CGI-intensive, it effectively delivers on its action-packed premise. The Snow Men aren’t particularly friendly, but they won’t scare younger children too much. It offers an appropriate level of violence for various age groups without being overly graphic. Despite this, Red One does deserve its PG-13 rating due to the frequent use of inappropriate language by these elves.
