As a devoted fan who has been following “Hazbin Hotel” since its humble beginnings as a YouTube pilot, I must say this recent leak of Season 2 elements has left me with a burning sensation, much like the one Charlie Morningstar might feel if she dipped her toes in the river Styx.
It appears that some troubling information has emerged: Parts of the second season of the Amazon Studios’ hit streaming show, “Hazbin Hotel,” which takes place in a fictitious underworld, have been unlawfully shared on the internet before the official release date.
Hazbin Hotel” is an animated musical series depicting a world within the infernal depths of Hell, according to its unique take on Judeo-Christian mythology. In this interpretation, Hell frequently becomes overpopulated with souls and requires a purge by Heaven to control its size. This process often involves angels eradicating demons in a mass extinction event. The series focuses on Charlie Morningstar, Satan’s hopeful daughter, who is voiced by Erika Henningsen. She is a pale, skeletal-looking demon dressed in a red suit, and her ambitious project is establishing the Hazbin Hotel to offer lost souls a chance for redemption within Hell, allowing them to possibly escape the recurring purges orchestrated by Heaven.
In Charlie’s optimistic – yet perhaps idealistic – endeavor, the cast of the show lends their support. Some members might ring a bell. Among those helping is Vaggie (played by Stephanie Beatriz), a tough-as-nails demon girlfriend; Husk (Keith David), a grumpy bartender resembling a cat with wings and a top hat; Niffty (Kimiko Glenn), a diminutive, one-eyed maid who has an unusual fascination with sharp objects; and Alastor (Amir Talai), the hotel’s financier, also known as the “Radio Demon” with his distorted, antiquated voice. The initial client for Charlie is Angel Dust (Blake Roman), a vulgar, drug-addled ex-porn star with a reputation for promiscuity and lack of repentance. If Charlie can manage to reform Angel Dust, it might serve as proof to Heaven that demons are capable of change and deserve a second chance instead of being purged.
Heaven before Hell
The animated series, titled “Hazbin Hotel”, initially started as an independently produced 30-minute pilot by animator Vivienne Medranon, known as Vivziepop. In the year 2019, this pilot was made available for free viewing on YouTube and quickly gained popularity due to its high-quality animation, distinctive character designs, and mature, witty humor – reminiscent of popular ’90s Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon shows. The success was almost immediate, resulting in millions of views within a short period. This surge in popularity also led to the creation of another series by Vivziepop called “Helluva Boss,” which is also set in the underworld.
Eventually, Vivziepop secured a deal with A24 to produce a fully-fledged animated series of “Hazbin Hotel,” now backed by a major studio. After years of development, the streaming series (with some alterations from the initial pilot) premiered on Amazon Prime Video on January 19, 2024. The show quickly exceeded expectations and was soon renewed for a second season, which is expected to air on Amazon Prime in either 2025 or 2026, as per the creator.
How did this happen?
It turns out that several parts of the second season of Hazbin Hotel have been leaked and shared on social media platforms like Reddit, TikTok, etc. This leak includes scripts, new art, storyboards, early animatics, and even the full second episode. We’re not going to disclose these leaks because we don’t want to spoil the show for those who haven’t seen them yet. Just be aware that the leaked information is quite detailed, so if you’re a fan of the show, especially if you plan on discussing it in public forums, consider yourself warned.
What led to this situation? It appears that a data breach occurred at one of the studios involved in producing episodes for “Hazbin Hotel” Season 2, and an individual (allegedly) responsible for the leak obtained all the stolen information. It’s not yet known whether they were the one who initiated the initial breach or not, but they managed to release the data nonetheless. Unfortunately, there have been attempts to sell these leaked assets on Telegram to the highest bidder.
The Aftermath
It is said that the individual responsible for the data leak was a notorious hacker, who had previously acquired unauthorized materials from other shows to sell illicitly. This time, it appears they were apprehended due to their use of a personal bank account for suspicious transactions. There are whispers that they could face up to $100,000 in fines for their wrongdoings.
Despite numerous leaks, Vivziepop seems determined not to alter any forthcoming storylines in “Hazbin Hotel”. Gooseworx, one of the composers, confirmed on Tumblr that despite possible leaks, there will be no changes made to the storyline. This decision appears sound for several reasons, including the significant investment of time, money, and effort required for alterations. Additionally, deviating from original plots due to fan theories generally doesn’t turn out well.
Here’s where the narrative currently stands, and let’s keep our fingers crossed that no further revelations surface prior to the release of Season 2. Regardless, stay vigilant, fans of “Hazbin,” and if you require a reminder, revisit Looper’s breakdown of the events in the final episode of Season 1 for a refresher.
