As a longtime fan of Stranger Things, I’ve grown quite attached to the characters, and Eddie Munson is no exception. His brief but impactful presence in Season 4 left a lasting impression on me, just like the way a good whiskey can linger on the palate after a satisfying sip.
Stranger Things has solidified its position as one of the most-watched Netflix series ever, with its fourth season coming very close to taking the top spot, surpassed only by Wednesday. Despite a noticeable change in the show’s mood for this latest season, it has been nothing short of extraordinary, particularly with the introduction of Vecna, who becomes increasingly terrifying whenever he appears on screen.
In a similar fashion, the series introduced an extraordinary character named Eddie Munson. This character was a senior at Hawkins High School and headed the Hellfire Club, eventually forging a strong friendship with Dustin Henderson. However, in the concluding episode of Stranger Things Season 4, Eddie made a heroic sacrifice not just for his friends but for the entire town of Hawkins to be saved.
Although the conclusion was satisfying, there are still fans clinging to the possibility that he could be rejuvenated in Season 5, particularly following the unveiling of the episode titles. While this idea may seem appealing, considering his exceptional character, we think these speculations go against the fundamental spirit of Stranger Things.
New Stranger Things Theory Revives Eddie Munson
In Season 4, Edward Munson, played by Joseph Quinn, is one of the most cherished characters for many viewers, partly because of his selfless act of shielding Dustin and their friends from the demobats while blasting Metallica in a heroic final solo performance. What makes Eddie’s death particularly poignant is that he had previously shown cowardice by avoiding his problems throughout the series. However, when it counted the most, he bravely stood up against the swarm of demobats, potentially saving all his friends from certain doom.
Due to his demise, the fourth season’s most impactful emotional scene is still fresh in our minds, but some fans find it hard to accept his departure. Recently, a fan theory about Eddie’s potential return in Season 5 has emerged on Reddit from user Kitchen-Energy4859. In their post, they suggested that Eddie could make a comeback based on the titles of the upcoming season’s episodes.
In episode 6, the title ‘Escape from Camazot’ might suggest a connection to Eddie’s character. The term ‘Camazot’ refers to a bat-like deity in Mayan mythology, a creature that Eddie encountered when he was consumed by demobats and later transformed into one. Additionally, Camazots is associated with sacrifice, which aligns with the fact that Eddie met his end. Could this imply that Eddie is trying to escape or deal with the consequences of this transformation?
While fans are known for associating our fiction with some of the most absurd references, this theory falls short according to another fan theory, who responded to the user’s post. Apparently, Camazotz is also the name of a planet in “A Wrinkle in Time,” where everyone is under the mind control of an evil entity similar to the Mind Flayer in Stranger Things.
The Reluctance of Stranger Things to Kill Off Its Main Characters
For eight years now, the hit series Stranger Things has graced our screens, and it’s evident that certain characters have been hard to part ways with. Although tragic deaths like Billy, Barb, and Eddie have occurred, it’s striking how the core group of characters – Dustin, Steve, Eleven, Mike, Lucas, Will, and others – have managed to survive numerous perilous situations despite being regularly in harm’s way. This could be one reason why the showrunners decided to make Eddie a beloved character in Stranger Things Season 4 and provide him with a touching farewell.
Despite numerous situations where fans felt let down by the invincibility of certain characters like Jim Hopper, the idea that Eddie might return only intensifies these feelings. Therefore, it might make more sense to keep this theory out of the official storyline. However, the creators of Stranger Things have done an impressive job developing their characters, making viewers emotionally invested in almost every main character. As a result, the Duffer Brothers may choose not to cause distress among fans right now. But with the fifth season approaching, it’s reasonable to anticipate at least one significant character death.
Why These Stranger Things Theories Should Never Come True
Eddie Munson stands out as a significant and beloved character within the world of “Stranger Things,” even though his appearances are limited in the fourth season. Fans have developed affection for him, leading to disappointment over his demise in the storyline. However, considering what we’ve explored up until now, Eddie’s death serves as a poignant and impactful event within the series, making a resurrection potentially detrimental, reflecting the creators’ apprehension towards reintroducing key characters who have been written off.
Eddie demonstrated immense bravery, triumphing over his personal struggles to rescue his friend Dustin and many others from Vecna’s lair. If Eddie reappears in Season 5, it might parallel Billy’s return in the fans’ minds, as Dustin could be hallucinating after being manipulated by Vecna – a twist that would please Eddie Munson supporters while staying true to his character’s demise. Leaving Eddie deceased adds impact to his sacrifice, maintaining the narrative arc developed throughout the previous season. Should Eddie be revived for a happy ending, or is his heroic act a fitting conclusion for his character? That’s a topic for discussion among fans as they continue to enjoy Stranger Things on Netflix.
