As a hardcore gamer who’s been following Sonic since the Sega Genesis days, I can’t help but feel a mix of nostalgia and anticipation as we approach the release of Sonic 3. The introduction of Shadow back in Sonic 3 was a game-changer, and now with talks of a potential fourth film, it seems that our favorite hedgehog isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
With Shadow the Hedgehog debuting in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, some fans speculate that this could mark the end of the Sonic franchise cinematically. However, it seems that there are ongoing plans to bring more Sonic adventures to the silver screen.
Indeed, director Jeff Fowler has verified that a sneak peek for the following movie is set to debut by the conclusion of the third film.
Tease for Sonic 4
As I chat with Entertainment Weekly, Fowler shares exciting whispers about potential cast members for the upcoming fourth film. He remarks, “The online fan debates about who’s joining the crew next and who might be hinted at in the final scene are quite intriguing! On our side of things, we share similar discussions. We all have our favorites among the filmmakers, and we passionately argue for ‘it should be this character or that one.’ Keeping the suspense alive is part of the thrill. This movie is no exception when it comes to introducing new characters.
Similar to the previous two Sonic movies, it’s anticipated that the third film will pave the way for a possible fourth movie, which might introduce yet another video game character following Tails and Shadow.
Is Silver the Hedgehog Coming?
Based on what Fowler mentioned, there’s been a lot of discussion online about who might appear next after Shadow, and according to a recent rumor from insider Daniel RPK (via @sonicstadium), it could potentially be Silver the Hedgehog who makes his entrance.
Introduced in 2006, Silver is believed to be a time-traveler from 2 centuries ahead, visiting the past to prevent disastrous events that would devastate his world. While Silver isn’t typically considered a villain, some enthusiasts propose using him as a misdirection and revealing the true antagonist instead: Metal Sonic.
The storyline closely resembles one seen in Dragon Ball Z, as Trunks arrives from the future, carrying out a task that is typical of time travelers; however, this theory allows for the introduction of not just one, but two new characters into the movie plot.
Other Sonic Favorites
Given that Sonic’s team currently comprises Tails and Knuckles, there might be an effort to incorporate other Sonic characters in the upcoming movie. So far, we haven’t received any clues about Amy Rose or Sticks the Badger, but every Sonic fan anticipates seeing Rouge the Bat, a character who would surely captivate every millennial furry enthusiast.
Currently, enthusiasts are on edge as they eagerly anticipate the release of the next Sonic movie. To date, the Sonic film series has achieved moderate success, and there’s been a great deal of buzz about Shadow making his big-screen debut. What many didn’t foresee was Jim Carrey reprising his role, and surprisingly, he appears in Sonic 3 not once, but twice.
