As a seasoned gamer who has seen the rise and fall of numerous online platforms over the years, I can’t help but feel a sense of déjà vu as yet another familiar face departs from Twitter. Gabrielle Union‘s decision to leave is a stark reminder of the ever-evolving landscape of social media, where one day you’re connecting with millions and the next, you’re questioning the very purpose of being there.
Gabrielle Union is the latest Hollywood figure to leave X (formerly known as Twitter).
In a post published on Friday, Union stated, “There are crucial instances in life where we need to draw a line and say ‘no more’ and today is one of those moments for me. Websites such as X were originally built upon genuine interactions, meaningful engagement, and artistic freedom, all grounded in the protection of user privacy and trust. However, with the new and upcoming modifications to their terms of service, and the reappearance of questionable individuals, I find myself at a juncture, unable to fully endorse the path they are taking. I remain dedicated to participating in environments that genuinely uphold values like inclusivity, respect, and honesty in the digital realm. At times, this involves acknowledging when enough is enough and knowing when it’s time to move on.
Union extended her gratitude to those she interacted with on the social media site. “Thank you for the humor, the wisdom, and the constant encouragement. I won’t be gone forever!
Afterward, she mentioned that she’ll remain active on her Instagram, Threads, TikTok, BlueSky, Spill, and Facebook platforms. She explained, “We can still foster valuable relationships and maintain a positive atmosphere here.” Thank you for being such an essential part of this adventure! Let’s continue sharing love and light in ways that truly make a difference.
end of an era ✌🏾

Recently, it has been announced that a prominent figure, Union, is leaving X. Previously, it emerged that both Jamie Lee Curtis and Don Lemon had chosen to close down their respective accounts.
Despite not explicitly citing Elon Musk as their reason for departing, their posts coincide with President-elect Donald Trump’s announcement about Musk, who obtained Twitter in 2022, teaming up with Vivek Ramaswamy on a project called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This initiative, reminiscent of “Dogecoin” and the “doge” meme, aims to streamline bureaucracy.
Lemon decided to leave due to the introduction of revised terms of service on November 15th. One key aspect of these new terms is that any disputes will need to be resolved either in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas or state courts within Tarrant County, Texas.
Recently, as stated by the Washington Post, X has chosen to alter their terms, a move that guarantees lawsuits will be tried in courts known for their conservative leanings. Experts suggest this could make it simpler for X to dodge legal action and penalize critics. In my opinion, this is quite clear.” Lemon then encouraged his audience to check out his other social media platforms for any future updates.
The Guardian has declared that it will no longer publish content on platform X, because they believe the advantages of being there are now overshadowed by the disadvantages. They think their resources would be more effectively utilized by promoting their journalism on other platforms instead.
On November 4th, the Berlin Film Festival chose to leave a popular social media site. Similarly, NPR ceased utilizing a specific platform in April 2023, and Balenciaga closed its account on that same platform in November 2022.
In October 2022, Elon Musk finalized his $44 billion purchase of Twitter. Subsequently, the company reduced its content moderation teams, leading to an increase in automated accounts (bots), hate speech, misogyny, harassment, fraudulent activities, conspiracy theories, false information, and pornographic content.
A multitude of well-known figures such as Lizzo, Barbra Streisand, Quinta Brunson, James Gunn, John Cusack, Guillermo del Toro, and Ben Stiller, along with many others, have recently signed up to the fast-growing social media platform, BlueSky. Since the presidential election, this platform has experienced a surge in popularity, welcoming over 1 million new users on Thursday alone. Earlier this week, BlueSky announced that it had surpassed 15 million users.
