As a lifestyle expert, I must say that Neena Gupta’s journey in the film industry is nothing short of inspiring. Her resilience and determination are evident in her willingness to take risks, even when it means traveling across continents for an audition.
In recent years, Neena Gupta, who gained prominence once more with the 2018 film Badhaai Ho starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra, has demonstrated her impressive acting skills. Interestingly, you might not know that she tried out for Dimple Kapadia’s role in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, but unfortunately, didn’t make the cut. Lately, Neena Gupta shared that she had wanted to ask Dimple about why she didn’t travel to Los Angeles as she did. The actress of Badhaai Do confesses that she tends to have a bit of bad fortune when it comes to auditions.
In a fresh installment of Kareena Kapoor Khan’s talk show, What Women Want, Neena Gupta discussed her experience auditioning for Christopher Nolan’s movie Tenet. She recalled traveling to Los Angeles for a single day to meet with the director about the potential role.
The Panchayat star initially expressed that the actress often tries out for many roles but ultimately fails to secure them. Interestingly, it seems to work in her favor when she doesn’t choose those opportunities. She observed, “It appears to be my misfortune.
Neena Gupta reminisced about trying out for the role of Dimple in Tenet, which took place in Mumbai, India. She even sent a tape recording to Christopher Nolan for consideration. Although Neena was one of the five actresses chosen during the selection process, ultimately, Dimple Kapadia was cast in the 2020 film instead.
She didn’t go to LA at all. If I ever run into Dimple, I’ll ask her why she didn’t visit, but as it stands, she didn’t even go. As for the character’s portrayal, that’s entirely up to the director; there’s nothing we can do about it. She further commented on this.
In a previous conversation with Vogue India, Dimple Kapadia reminisced about the set of Tenet and recounted an incident where director Christopher Nolan requested her to keep her earrings on during filming for the 2020 movie.
In the movie Tenet, Dimple Kapadia portrayed Priya Singh, a character who was an Indian arms trader. This sci-fi action thriller featured an ensemble cast including John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh.
Last month, Neena Gupta received a National Film Award for her role in Sooraj Barjatya’s 2022 film Uunchai. The award was given to her in the category of Best Supporting Actress during the ceremony.
