Mike Tyson, Jake Paul Fight Viewed By 60 Million Households

As a seasoned gamer and long-time Netflix subscriber, I must say that Friday night was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride! The anticipation for the Paul vs. Tyson fight was palpable, and with 60 million households tuning in worldwide, it’s safe to say that everyone wanted a piece of the action.

It was a “record-breaking night” for Netflix on Friday.

Approximately 60 million homes worldwide watched the live match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, as reported by the streaming service. At its peak, the event boasted a staggering 65 million simultaneous streams.

In the main supporting fight between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor, approximately 50 million homes watched, making it potentially the most-viewed professional women’s sports event ever in the U.S., according to a press statement from Netflix.

Joe Hands Promotion collaborated with Netflix to broadcast the event to approximately 6,000 bars and eateries nationwide in the USA, marking a new record for commercial distribution of a combat sports event in the company’s over half-century long history.

On the platform previously known as Twitter, the hashtag #PaulTyson was the top global trending topic, while #Serrano held the second spot in the United States, Brazil, Spain, and Canada.

The battle not only shattered financial records but raked in over $18 million at the box office, more than doubling the prior record for combat sports like boxing and MMA. As a result, it became the largest boxing event held outside of Las Vegas, setting a new benchmark in U.S. boxing history.

The matchup between Paul and Tyson unfolded in Arlington, Texas, culminating with the ex-YouTube sensation emerging victorious over the undisputed heavyweight titleholder. As the fight approached, excitement grew substantially, escalating even further when Tyson playfully slapped Paul during the weigh-in earlier that day after claims of the 27-year-old having stepped on him.

Tyson remarked after the occurrence, ‘I was barefoot while he was shod.’ He allegedly stepped on my toe because he’s inconsiderate. I want to believe it was an accident initially. However, now I suspect it might have been intentional. The pain was intense. In response, I felt compelled to retaliate.

During the night, viewers on Netflix encountered various technical difficulties such as buffering and freezing while streaming the live event. Regrettably, this wasn’t a rare occurrence for the large-scale streamer; even during live events, it has faced similar problems in the past. For instance, the live reunion of Love Is Blind season four was postponed by over an hour last year due to technical issues.
