Shazad Latif Joins Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi in Emerald Fennell’s ‘Wuthering Heights’ (Exclusive)

As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the worlds of literature and gaming alike, I can hardly contain my excitement at this news! Shazad Latif, a name familiar to me from both “Penny Dreadful” and “Star Trek: Discovery,” is stepping into the turbulent world of Wuthering Heights.

The love triangle is now complete.

Actor Shazad Latif, known for his role opposite Lily James in the romantic comedy “What’s Love Got to With It?”, has been cast alongside Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi in the highly anticipated adaptation of “Wuthering Heights” directed by Emerald Fennell. The film is being supported by MRC and Warner Bros., with Warner Bros. securing distribution rights after a competitive bidding process.

Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel, a literary classic, focuses on the Lintons and their complicated relationship with Heathcliff, who was fostered by the Earnshaws. In Fennell’s adaptation, Elordi portrays Heathcliff, while Robbie takes on the role of Catherine Earnshaw, Heathcliff’s hidden love.

After a prolonged hunt for the suitable role, Latif has been chosen to portray Edgar Linton, a prosperous neighbor who develops affection for and ultimately marries Catherine. However, their happiness is threatened when Heathcliff, a vengeful figure from her past, reappears intent on causing harm to both Catherine and the Earnshaws.

Shooting is due to begin in late January in the UK.

The MRC (Media Rights Capital) is funding the project, collaborating with LuckyChap Productions – a production company run by Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara – and Warner Bros., who are in charge of production. Fennell has penned the script, will direct, and also produce the project.

Latif played Dr. Jekyll in Showtime’s Penny Dreadful series and played Chief of Security Ash Tyler in Star Trek: Discovery. This year he starred opposite Daisy Ridley in the neo-noir thriller Magpie which debuted at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival and received a theatrical release in October.

The actor is also currently playing another literary great, inhabiting Captain Nemo in Nautilus, AMC’s 10-episode series based on Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea but told from the perspective of an Indian prince robbed of his birthright hellbent on revenge. The series has yet to debut stateside but is on Amazon’s Prime Video in the UK and other territories.

Latif is repped by CAA, Principal, and Lou Coulson & Associates.
