Baracuta and Barbour’s Latest Collab Traces British Style Through the Decades

As a seasoned gamer of British fashion history, I must say that the Baracuta x Barbour Fall/Winter 2024 collection has truly piqued my interest. Having grown up in the North, I’ve seen these iconic brands adorn the shoulders of countless characters both on the streets and in pop culture. The collaboration between these two heritage labels is like a dream come true for me, a fusion of style that resonates deeply with my roots.

One year following their initial partnership, the renowned British brands Baracuta and Barbour reunite for a fresh Fall/Winter joint collection.

To celebrate Barbour’s centennial, the latest collection departs from the revamped Ivy League aesthetics of its predecessor, instead delving into inspiration rooted in their shared Northern English heritage. A representative from the outdoor brand explains, “Blending the essence of both brands was crucial for this collaboration. Our aim was to honor the Northern origins of Barbour and Baracuta, and those who have donned our jackets throughout the years.

This method highlights two iconic vintage coats as standouts in the collection: the timeless G9 Harrington from Baracuta and the Bedale jacket by Barbour. These jackets, widely recognized since the ’60s up to now, have been embraced by various subcultures. The updated G9 design incorporates Barbour’s traditional waxed fabric for the outer layer, accentuating its classic details. Similarly, the popular Bedale jacket adopts Baracuta’s distinctive dog-ear collar in a larger, more oversized shape.

Maintaining a tribute to the classic British fashion history, this collection includes a long-line Parka boasting a toggle waist and oversized hood similar to those worn by mods and Brit-pop musicians. The outerwear is accompanied by cable knits and shirts, both adorned with the brand’s signature tartan patterns within their lining, much like the blend of labels seen in traditional British attire. Completing the FW24 collection are trapper hats and bucket hats, providing an additional shield against the typical British weather for these durable pieces.

Speaking about the recent release, a representative from Baracuta stated, “The spirit of Manchester and South Shields, where both Baracuta and Barbour originated, runs deep within us. When you don a Baracuta x Barbour garment, it’s more than just clothing; it symbolizes an embodiment of pure, unmatched British style.

In a distinctly British fashion, the labels team up with trendsetter Danny Lomas for their latest campaign. The scenes were captured within the vibrant red-brick setting of Manchester’s Ancoats district, where Lomas demonstrates his personal style while providing commentary for the video, as showcased in the gallery above.
