Lucy Liu Has A Funny Take On Why She Hasn’t Shown The Charlie’s Angels Films To Her Son Yet

As someone who grew up idolizing the trio of Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore, and Cameron Diaz from the iconic ’00s Charlie’s Angels series, it’s a delight to see them continuing their journey in Hollywood. I can still remember the thrill of those action-packed movies and the impact they had on my formative years.

To achieve iconic status akin to Lucy Liu, one must maintain a joyful outlook and possess a keen sense of humor. Since the 90’s, she has been active in acting, transitioned into producing and directing, and is also a mother. Notably, she can be found on both our 2024 movie and TV schedules. At 55 years old, she appears to be busier than ever but still finds time to share her work with her son. However, she humorously admitted that not all of her films, such as Charlie’s Angels, have been shown to him yet.

Liu appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show together with Kiernan Shipka from the Red One cast. They chatted about an upcoming holiday action movie, as well as their shared connection through the iconic 2000s Charlie’s Angels series. During the discussion of the new Jake Kasdan-directed holiday film, Liu revealed that her son was a big fan and wanted to watch it again right away. The three then gushed over the cuteness of her child.

Later, the TV host inquired Liu doubtfully if she’d permit him to view the adult-oriented, action-packed female crime series, and she disclosed that she hadn’t due to its explicit content. The former star of Elementary chuckled as she divulged her response:

No, no, it’s a little too much… You’ve got a lot of boob going on. You’ve got some booty going on. I think it’s too much. … He hasn’t seen it, and I don’t think it’s the right time.

It seems appropriate for a child of elementary age, particularly your own, as there’s too much complexity in the series for someone so young. The Kill Bill actress might eventually share the ’00s classic, but considering the current situation, Red One appears to be a more suitable choice.

For over two decades now, the thrilling action flicks starring Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore, and Cameron Diaz have left an indelible mark on Hollywood lore. Though the original movie is often hailed as one of the greatest adaptations from ’60s-’70s television, the journey behind the scenes was far from smooth sailing. There were numerous rumors swirling around this trio, with some claiming that Lucy and the others weren’t seeing eye to eye. However, Lucy herself has set the record straight on those tales of discord.

I’m hoping one of them will eventually debunk the idea of us not getting a Charlie’s Angels 3 return. In the meantime though, the Angels fans and I are getting regular doses of Liu and Barrymore, and can expect to see Diaz soon. She’ll be in our 2025 movie schedule reuniting with Jamie Foxx in Back in Action, and then making her eventual return as Fiona in Shrek 5, coming in 2026.

Regarding Liu and her son, I wish they keep savoring the selections she’s made for him, and when they eventually get to “Charlie’s Angels,” I hope it’s as amusing and enjoyable as this interaction was. If you’re interested in Lucy Liu’s latest work, consider watching “A Man in Full” on Netflix.
