As a gamer with a heart for procedurals that stretch back to my Bones-bingeing days, I can’t help but see the parallels between the classic Fox series and the new kid on the block,
There’s a special place in my heart for Bones. It was the first show I ever binge-watched, and I fell head over heels in love with Booth and Brennan. Now, there’s a new procedural that’s wow-ing me on the 2024 TV schedule, High Potential, and it reminds me a lot of the classic Fox series. So, as the Kaitlin Olson-led hit continues, there’s one note I need her character Morgan and Daniel Sunjata’s Karadec to take from David Boreanaz’s Booth and Emily Deschanel’s Brennan.
In my honest opinion, it’s best for Morgan and Karadec’s romantic connection to develop gradually, taking its sweet time.
In the early seasons, there was an undercurrent of romantic tension between Booth and Brennan, but it wasn’t until Season 6 that they officially became a couple! It took six long years for them to acknowledge their feelings, and I enjoyed every moment of their unspoken longing, work antics, and more. And that’s the kind of emotional dynamic I can feel brewing between Morgan and Karadec on High Potential.
In Nick Venable’s words, “High Potential” is an exceptional crime series that steers clear of the common pitfalls found in procedurals. Unlike him, I find the romantic dynamics between Morgan and Karadec intriguing rather than problematic. Yet, at this stage, there doesn’t seem to be any hint of a relationship brewing between them, which makes his perspective understandable. However, I believe the sparks are undeniably present, and I’m invested in their potential romantic connection, not just the short-term storylines.
The reason Bones stood out was because the romance didn’t drive the main narrative; for quite some time, it was a minor, almost unnoticeable thread. When it became more prominent in the series, it still took a back seat to their professional relationship. Essentially, the dynamic between Booth and Bones at work was central, while their romantic connection developed later on, which I found delightful.
For Morgan and Karadec, their dynamic is a delightful blend of harmony and banter, which keeps me constantly amused. It seems as though subtle hints are being dropped that there might be a deeper connection developing between them in the future.
Over a period of years, Booth and Brennan nurtured a strong bond of friendship that remained platonic for quite some time. It’s delightful watching Olson and Sunjata’s characters maintain their friendship, and it seems to be working well for them. However, as they grow increasingly close, there’s an undeniable sense of romantic tension building up between them.

But, let’s not act on it too fast.
For a brief period, let’s explore Olson as Morgan, a single mother. We’ll delve deeper into her interactions with Ludo, focusing on their co-parenting dynamics. Once she demonstrates her ability to manage both her professional life at the LAPD and her personal responsibilities effectively, we can introduce a touch of romance between her and Karadec.
Similar to Booth and Brennan, they’re both incredibly intelligent but polar opposites, with a strong mutual affection for each other. I’m excited to find out how Karadec interacts with Morgan’s children. I eagerly anticipate watching more crime-solving adventures from them. Perhaps, in the distant future – say, around seasons five or six – we might even witness them develop a romantic relationship.
I’m quite intrigued! “High Potential” has the makings of an outstanding slow-burn story. Fingers crossed that they draw inspiration from “Bones,” and eventually, Morgan and Karadec will find themselves expressing their feelings towards each other (but not too soon).
For now, catch these two crime-solvers when “High Potential” makes its comeback on ABC’s 2025 TV schedule on January 7 at 9 p.m. ET. You can also stream previously aired episodes, as well as the entire series of “Bones,” with a Hulu subscription, to understand why I keep drawing comparisons between Booth and Brennan, and Morgan and Karadec in terms of their vibes.
