As a seasoned gamer of TV dramas, I’ve seen my fair share of plot twists and character deaths, but Yellowstone’s latest episode has left me more bewildered than ever. The demise of Sarah Atwood was as unexpected as a level boss appearing out of nowhere in an easy-mode game!

Hey there, fellow Yellowstone enthusiasts! I’ve been a long-time fan of this gripping series, and I can’t help but feel compelled to share some words of caution. Don’t let a moment of carelessness rob you of the joy that unfolds in each heart-pounding episode. Happy viewing!

In the forthcoming Fall TV schedule for 2024, the popular series “Yellowstone” delved into the events preceding the surprising revelation that John Dutton is deceased in its latest episode. It also explored how Kayce managed to persuade the medical examiner that his death was not a suicide. However, the John Dutton character portrayed by a Kevin Costner look-alike (or an actor lying in wait, if you will) wasn’t the only deceased member of the Dutton clan by the conclusion of “Three Fifty-Three.

As a hardcore gamer, let me discuss the surprising turn of events in Yellowstone that’s hinting at its final act. It seems like an assassination out of nowhere has left a fascinating storyline unresolved and hanging in mid-air, like a loose thread in my favorite game.

R.I.P. Sarah Atwood

One of TV’s most controversial and dubious relationships concluded tragically, as Dawn Olivieri’s character Sarah Atwood was shot dead in her car shortly after leaving an emotionally charged argument with Jamie. The two shooters who ended her life likely acted on behalf of the group responsible for John’s death, since they began tracking her only after it was announced that the investigation into his death would be reopened.

In many aspects of Jamie’s life, Sarah represented an unresolved issue that needed addressing, and while it’s unlikely he would have been the one to eliminate her from the situation, others had no such hesitation. As far as we can tell, she is the only person outside of the criminal group who knew about the operation’s existence.

It’s assumed that the shadow team isn’t privy to Jamie’s understanding and foresight about the situation, or else they might have targeted Sarah and Jamie during their argument. This raises questions about how Jamie being near the murder will appear once others learn of it, and whether any additional connections can be drawn from that perspective. However, Beth has already linked some dots on this matter.

But what about Beth’s other research into Sarah’s seemingly shady background?

What Happened To “Sarah Atwood” Being A Fake Name?

Despite the occasional revealing outfits worn by Dawn Olivieri as Sarah, it’s the enigmatic revelation from Episode 504, “Horses in Heaven,” that has kept me deeply engaged in her story. This is the episode where Jamie and Sarah have a sexual encounter in the bathroom of the Deerfield Club, an event fans may recall vividly.

In a public setting, Beth searched through Sarah’s handbag, snapped a photo of her driver’s license, and later looked up information about the Market Equities enforcer. However, she couldn’t find anyone named “Sarah Atwood” with matching credentials, leading Beth to suspect that the woman’s name might have been fraudulent. This is the conclusion I also drew from that incident.

Indeed, it sparked speculation in my mind that she had been deceiving the Duttons and others in a long-term scheme, but her sudden demise casts doubt on this theory as it currently stands. It might not have been the intended outcome if Taylor Sheridan did indeed plan something like this (which is unlikely). However, are we likely to receive any clarification or answers regarding this matter?

Upon Witnessing Jamie’s Emotional Response Towards John’s Destiny in Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2, I Just Can’t Get Over Wes Bentley’s Heartbreaking Remarks About Their Connection.

It’s plausible that the chaos going on behind the scenes and Hollywood strikes might have disrupted Sheridan’s ability to stick with the initial plan for Beth’s Goggle scene, leading to necessary adjustments when Kevin Costner decided not to reprise his role as John Dutton. However, I sincerely hope that one of the remaining Season 5 episodes will provide a brief clarification for why the name is significant, even if it doesn’t lead to a larger storyline.

At minimum, I’d expect Beth to recognize Sarah’s name in some news article or similar, prompting her to shake her head and comment, “They don’t seem to know her real name.” At maximum, I’d hope for it to be unveiled that Sarah is none other than Caroline Warner, the CEO of Market Equities, secretly revealed as her daughter. This wouldn’t significantly alter the plot, but it would still be interesting.

After a break of almost two years, the initial episode of “Yellowstone” was its all-time viewership record-breaker, particularly in early viewing periods. However, subsequent episodes may not reach such astronomical figures as they were also shown on CBS, which likely contributed to the high numbers. Yet, this could simply mean that some viewers will switch to Paramount Network for the remainder of the season.

Keep an eye out for further updates about the ongoing western series and additional shows within the Yellowstone universe, including the spin-off The Madison and others.
