As an ardent fan of the dynamic and resilient Alia Bhatt, I can’t help but be awestruck by her journey from being criticized for not fitting the part to becoming one of Bollywood’s most sought-after actresses. It’s fascinating to witness how a single film like Highway could change public perception so dramatically, within just a Friday!
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’d say it’s fascinating to witness Alia Bhatt’s transformation from portraying a charismatic, affluent student in Student Of The Year to triumphantly earning a National Award for her roles as a powerful female mafia don and brothel madame in Gangubai Kathiawadi. Today, she stands as one of Bollywood’s most coveted actresses, but there was a time when she faced criticism for not fitting the mold in 2 States. However, Arjun Kapoor vividly recounted how Alia completely shifted audience perceptions of her with just one extraordinary performance on a Friday, in the movie Highway.
During an interview with Mashable India, Arjun Kapoor recounted his collaboration with Alia Bhatt in the movie “2 States”. He revealed an interesting tidbit about the project’s early days: when Alia agreed to star in the 2014 romantic comedy-drama, there was a significant amount of criticism and negativity on social media regarding her casting. Some people questioned whether she appeared authentically South Indian enough for the role.
As stated by the actress from the film “Singham Again”, her first movie “Student of the Year” did not provide her with the recognition necessary at that time to portray an already established character. This is because many people had read the book, and therefore other well-known actors were deemed more visually fitting for the role.
However, the actress from Jigra never voiced any complaints regarding this matter. This is why Alia stands as a shining example of how things can align smoothly if one simply focuses on working diligently, according to Kapoor. The actor further mentioned that she went through an audition and a low-key photoshoot.
In the same conversation, Arjun Kapoor mentioned that during the filming of Ki & Ka, Karan Johar was simultaneously producing Highway and 2 States, while he himself was working on Gunday and 2 States. This means Highway was released just prior to 2 States, and as a result, people’s views on Alia Bhatt transformed dramatically. Arjun shared his thoughts, saying, “Before that, there were doubts about her casting in this film, but afterwards, she became the ideal choice.
In a recent disclosure, the actress who starred in Half Girlfriend shared that the ideal director at a crucial moment with an appropriate role significantly enhanced her acting abilities, and he observed her transformation right on the set of 2 States alongside her. Simultaneously, Arjun was previously seen in Rohit Shetty’s film Singham Again, while Alia is currently working on Alpha and Love & War.
