Gavin Creel Memorial to Include U.S. and U.K. Livestream

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant world of Broadway shows, I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Gavin Creel. His electrifying performances in musicals like “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “Hair” and the recent revival of “Into the Woods” have left an indelible mark on my heart, transporting me to a realm where music, drama, and emotion intertwined seamlessly.

Instead of attending the New York memorial for Broadway star Gravin Creel in person, audiences in both the United States and the United Kingdom can now watch it live online.

A renowned actor named Creel, who gained fame for his leading roles in productions like “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “Hair,” and the recent revival of “Into the Woods,” passed away in September following a diagnosis of metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma, a rare and aggressive type of cancer, in July. He was only 48 years old.

It’s been declared that a memorial service for the cherished actor will take place on December 2nd, at the St. James Theatre in New York City. The ceremony starts at 4:00 p.m., Eastern Time. This event is open to the public, with a seating capacity of approximately 1,500 people.

The MCC Theater, known for presenting Creel’s original musical “Walk On Through: Confessions of a Museum Novice” at the Susan & Ronald Frankel Theater from November 2023 to January 2024, will offer live streaming access within the United States through their YouTube channel.

In the U.K., Society of London Theatre will host live streaming access on their YouTube channel.

The celebration will not be available to view on-demand once it has concluded.

As a token of respect for Creel’s memory, Broadway will turn off its lights on December 3, following his memorial service, at 6:45 p.m. Eastern Time. Simultaneously, the MCC will also darken their lights.

The complete dimming plan was revealed in October, following the Broadway League’s initial decision to only partially dim the lights, which led to criticism from Rachel Zegler, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Audra McDonald, and numerous others.

Contributions in honor of Gavin can be made to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. For details on attending the event at the St. James Theatre, kindly send an email with your name and contact info to: [GavinCelebration@BespokeTheatricals.com](mailto:GavinCelebration@BespokeTheatricals.com)
