Fire Country Season 3 Is Doing Exactly What We Didn't Want

As a gamer who’s played countless “choose your own adventure” games and navigated through countless romantic entanglements in virtual worlds, I can confidently say that the current state of Gabriela and Bode’s relationship in Fire Country is a glitch in the matrix.

The romantic tension between characters Bode Leone (Max Thieriot) and Gabriela Perez (Stephanie Arcila) in “Fire Country” is a key element, but the show seems uncertain about how to maintain that chemistry without turning them into tiresome couples that viewers tire of. Recently, the show ended Gabriela’s engagement to Diego (Rafael de la Fuente), leading all three parties to realize that Gabriela and Bode have deeper feelings for each other than she ever had for Diego. For now, they’ve agreed to take things slowly, but their fragile relationship is already facing challenges.

Join Audrey James, a fresh face in Season 3 of “Fire Country,” portrayed by Leven Rambin. She is part of Bode’s training program and initially clashes with him, but this animosity is gradually transforming into camaraderie, possibly even blossoming into something more, despite Audrey being in a committed relationship. Intriguingly, Bode ends his relationship with Gabriela, expressing his impatience and setting the stage for potential feelings between Audrey and her superior, Cam Casey, played by Jared Padalecki (recently seen on Season 4 of “Walker”), which could further complicate things.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got to say, introducing a fourth side to a triangle might be intriguing at first, but after three seasons of this back-and-forth tug-of-war, it’s simply become tiresome. If “Fire Country” can’t seem to develop Gabriela and Bode’s relationship without stirring up outside enticements, then the core romance of the show is falling flat – and it’s leaving viewers feeling more annoyed than engaged. Frankly, it’s not what we signed up for when we dived into this drama.

Fans aren’t here for the Gabriela-Audrey-Bode mess either

In the Fire Country fanbase, there’s not much support for this potential love quadrangle, as the criticism is directed at various characters. Those who are against Bode find his indecisiveness to be a significant flaw in his character. On the Fire Country subreddit, u/gk802 stated, “In just two episodes, Bode went from ‘I’ll wait for you as long as necessary’ to ‘I can’t wait any longer. It’s over.’

Many viewers are equally appalled by Gabriela’s character, as they find her inability to sustain a romance to be a significant flaw. One viewer expressed their displeasure by pointing out that Cam’s role in the storyline appears to solely serve the purpose of pushing Gabriela away from Bode. “[This] is likely to create an unnecessary love triangle involving Bode, Gabriella, and Camden,” they wrote. “Additionally, it seems that another love triangle may form between Gabriella and Audrey.” This situation could potentially be the most poorly executed ‘will they, won’t they’ scenario I’ve ever read in a script.” The user identified as u/Against-The-Current.

As a dedicated gamer, I find myself immersed in the captivating world of “Fire Country.” However, there are some viewers who believe that a romantic entanglement between Audrey and Bode will never materialize because of Audrey’s current relationship and Jared Padalecki’s limited screen time. Yet, if I were to step into the shoes of the creators, here’s what I would suggest to untangle Gabriela and Bode’s complex, dramatic romance:

How can Fire Country fix its Gabriela and Bode problem?

The Gabriela-Bode question is straightforward: Couldn’t we observe them as a steady pair, so we can decide if we genuinely appreciate them together outside the pressure of fire-fighting? This doesn’t necessitate eliminating or altering the dramatic tension associated with the show; it would just be refreshing to witness their relationship without constant interferences that disrupt their peace.

There could be a chance that viewers might not find Bode and Gabriela interesting without their dramatic elements, so the creative team might need to rethink their star-crossed romance. However, if they aim to make this pair captivating with a hint of longevity, we should understand what draws them together and what keeps pushing them apart. Ideally, they’ll become an iconic couple, but “Fire Country” needs to decide how to handle their dynamic before viewers lose interest in the show entirely.
