I'm Sad Reindeer Games Isn't Happening This Year, But There's One Fan-Suggested Big Brother Series I Still Hope Does Happen

As a die-hard fan of Big Brother, I can’t help but get excited about the potential for a spin-off series like “Big Brother: Cupid Games.” Having watched both the North American and Canadian versions, I can attest to the unique blend of strategy, drama, and camaraderie that makes this show so addictive.

After the finale of Big Brother Season 25, CBS left quite a few fans, including myself, in a state of surprise with their announcement for a spin-off show titled Reindeer Games. Frankly, this holiday-themed spin-off of Big Brother struck me and many others as rather absurd, especially since we had just spent over three months with the previous cast. Honestly, I wasn’t exactly thrilled about Big Brother: Reindeer Games.

I was relieved when my negative opinions about the new holiday TV show were quickly silenced upon falling in love with it. I hoped it would become an annual tradition. However, after being a devoted fan of Big Brother, suggesting that I wanted more Big Brother-like content seemed sacrilegious. So, you can only imagine my dismay when the makers of Big Brother announced that Reindeer Games wouldn’t be back for this holiday season.

Nevertheless, they didn’t dismiss the idea of its reappearance in the future. But, that’s fantastic news! Now, I’m in search of a fresh spin-off of Big Brother to keep me entertained until the next season begins. Here’s an idea…

I Want To See A Valentine’s Day Themed Spin-Off Big Brother Series

During the original broadcast of “Reindeer Games” within “Big Brother”, viewers proposed that CBS and Paramount create another holiday-focused spin-off. This idea gained traction, particularly during “Big Brother” Season 26, with fans suggesting a Valentine’s Day themed spin-off named “Big Brother: Cupid Games”.

In her conversation with The Wrap, the Season 24 Big Brother champion, Taylor Hale, endorsed a similar notion as well.

As a passionate gamer, I’ve got an exciting concept brewing! Picture this: A gaming show in February, filled with romantic entanglements and Valentine’s Day activities. Just like the thrilling gameplay of “Reindeer Games,” but with a twist – this time, it’s all about love and romance!

Some Great, Entertaining Couples From Past Seasons Could Appear On It

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but notice Julie Chen-Moonves’ frequent mentions of how the success rate of marriages from Big Brother surpasses that of The Bachelor. In 2024, no less than nine couples from the North American Big Brother franchise are married, and an impressive eleven pairs who found love on Big Brother are still going strong. What’s more, some couples even pursue relationships with players from other Big Brother seasons! With such a vast pool of potential partners, it seems the Big Brother producers have plenty of options to keep romantic sparks flying.

Furthermore, the program might consider inviting ex-couples who remain amicable, like Taylor Hale and Joseph Abdin, or take things up a notch by featuring ex-couples who are no longer on good terms.

Rubina Bernabe and Tucker Des Lauriers, who were a showmance on the latest season of Big Brother, have turned their relationship into reality. Their charming personalities and the popularity of Big Brother 26 make them ideal contestants for a hypothetical Cupid Games. Given Tucker’s America’s Favorite Houseguest title, it’s no wonder many fans are eager to see this couple return. Similarly, Derek Xiao, known for his funny hosting during Big Brother: Reindeer Games Season 1, along with Claire Rehfuss, seem like a perfect fit for this spin-off series, considering the enthusiasm surrounding their potential participation.

Additionally, the newer romance between America Lopez and Cory Wurtenberger might also feature in this potential show. Notably, well-known pairs such as Brendon Villegas and Rachel Reilly, and Jeff Schroeder and Jordan Lloyd could be expected participants in a hypothetical “showmance vs showmance” show. In fact, considering the success of its North American counterparts, it’s plausible that Big Brother might also feature some couples from Big Brother Canada.

Although Big Brother Canada is no longer streaming on Paramount Plus, it was at one point. This exposure might have introduced some ardent Big Brother enthusiasts to Canada’s former contestants and couples. The newlywed pair Ika Wong and Demetres Giannitsos would be ideal contenders for Cupid Games.

Ika has declared she’s quitting reality TV, yet there’s a chance she might return for a short-run competition show. Many couples who met on these shows have one partner with a larger-than-life personality. It would be quite exciting to see Derek, Tucker, Rachel, and Ika on the same program. Their personalities together could lead to potential turmoil, but in an amusing way.

This Spin-Off Might Fit Better Into The Winter Schedule

The primary explanation provided by producers Rich Meehan and Allison Grodner as to why there won’t be a Reindeer Games in 2024 is that it didn’t align with CBS’s fall TV lineup. However, just because the CBS winter schedule appears packed for January and February doesn’t automatically rule out Reindeer Games being included. In fact, CBS might be able to arrange something special and air it as a three or four-night event around Valentine’s Day.

Furthermore, some of us were big fans of the standalone online series called “Big Brother Over the Top”. Consequently, we’d be thrilled to catch another digital-only show. A potential candidate for this could be “Cupid Games”, a Paramount Plus Original event designed for Valentine’s Day. If it gains traction, CBS might eventually broadcast it on their network. NBC followed a similar path with the second season of “The Traitors”. After “The Traitors” gained popularity on Peacock, they later aired episodes on NBC.

Therefore, if Cupid Games received enough online attention, CBS could show it.

It Would Be A Good Buffer To Tide Fans Over Before The Next Season

I follow Big Brother and Big Brother Canada, but unfortunately, Corus Entertainment decided to discontinue Big Brother Canada. Normally, the Canadian version airs between March and May, which means that fans of both shows had a brief hiatus without any Big Brother content this year.

After the Canadian edition ended, there’s a noticeable void until the next North American season starts. While other reality TV shows can fill the gap between November and June or July, none seem to match the fervor and short-term obsession that Big Brother generates. Even shorter series, like another show in the vein of Reindeer Games, might help die-hard 24/7 reality TV fans cope with the wait.

I Want To See What The Competition Creators Come Up With

As a gaming enthusiast, let me tell you, “Reindeer Games” was chock-full of thrilling contests that, honestly, I’d kill to see in a standard season! Moreover, I can’t help but feel that this spin-off served as an insightful learning experience for the producers. The lessons they picked up, such as designing more balanced competitions, certainly made Season 26 a rollercoaster ride of entertainment!

In the show called Cupid Games , since it focuses on couples competing, we can expect a majority of activities designed for partners collaborating. While shows like Big Brother have occasionally included team challenges, it’s not common. This suggests that Cupid Games could introduce new competitions or reimagine old ones in fresh and inventive ways, challenging the production team to think creatively.

We saw the magic that happened because of the Reindeer Games, I want to see what competition magic happens because of the Cupid Games.

This Series Could Open The Door For More Holiday-Themed Big Brother

A large number of eleven pairs might be expected to grow as more episodes are released. However, it’s unlikely that there would be enough romantic pairs for the show “Big Brother: Cupid Games” to become an annual event, unless repeat couples keep participating, much like in the format of “The Challenge.” This suggests that a possible “Cupid Games” series could be a one-time event or occur every five years or so, when the pool of romantic relationships expands. On the other hand, shows like “Reindeer Games,” with a large number of past houseguests to draw from, might realistically become an annual event.

Given that the Big Brother event won’t occur annually, it might be interesting to have holiday-themed spin-off shows take place periodically instead. For example, we could enjoy specials like Big Brother: Bunny Bash, Big Brother: March Madness, Big Brother: New Year Extravaganza, and many more festive titles. These series could serve as fillers between the conclusion of one season and the start of another.

I still want a Cupid Games series to happen first, and the return of Reindeer Games, but I would support any future holiday Big Brother spin-off series.

Stream Big Brother: Reindeer Games on Paramount Plus.
