Loki Season 2 Deleted Scene Teases Major Marvel Moments

As a seasoned Marvel enthusiast who has seen more superhero movies than I can count (and that includes every single MCU film multiple times), let me say that this deleted scene from Loki Season 2 is a tantalizing taste of what could have been.

In a surprising twist, an unseen scene from the second season of Loki features the trickster god crossing paths with several prominent Marvel characters and adversaries yet unknown to audiences. It’s been over a year since the popular series concluded its second season, culminating in Loki (Tom Hiddleston) assuming the throne at the end of time. On December 2, 2024, Disney will release the 4K Blu-Ray version of Loki Season 2, making it an ideal holiday gift for any Marvel or Tom Hiddleston enthusiast. Among the bonus features is a collection of deleted scenes: one that, if added, could have hinted at significant developments within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As I delved into an intriguing behind-the-scenes glimpse shared with Variety, I found myself reminiscing alongside my comrade Mobius, portrayed admirably by Owen Wilson. In this intimate conversation, Loki casually dropped a few names that echoed through the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Deleted Scene Would Have Changed the MCU

Loki also mentions a few other familiar MCU names. He name-drops a few Earth-based characters, including Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), Nick Fury (Samuel Jackson), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings), and Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård). Loki mentions his past Asgardian connections, too — including his biological father Laufey (Colm Feore), Odin’s father Bor (Tony Curran), Volstagg (Ray Stevenson), Hogan (Tadanobu Asano), and Fandral (Josh Dallas in Thor and Zachary Levi in subsequent appearances), and Heimdall (Idris Elba) twice. He even mentions “Donald Blake, who Thor pretends to be when he goes to Earth.”

Including the scene where Loki referred to The Enchantress, Absorbing Man, and Hercules might have greatly impacted the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Enchantress is a major antagonist for Thor who hasn’t been introduced in the MCU yet, although aspects of her character were hinted at through Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino). On the other hand, Lorelei, The Enchantress’ sister, was portrayed by Elena Satine in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. By linking Loki to Lorelei and Absorbing Man, the second season of Loki could have solidified the connection between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the main timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Since his brief appearance in the “Thor: Love and Thunder” teaser, there’s been little mention of the character Hercules in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans are eager for more of him on screen, but as of now, there are no definite plans for his return. It seems that Hercules is one of several characters Marvel has hinted at without any intentions to fully develop. If the deleted scene had been kept, Loki could have served as a bridge connecting Thor and Hercules when they eventually meet.
