Guy Ritchie & Tom Hardy Gangster Series Gets a Big Update

As a movie enthusiast with over three decades of cinematic adventures under my belt, I can confidently say that the upcoming TV series “The Associate,” helmed by Guy Ritchie and starring the likes of Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren, is shaping up to be a truly captivating spectacle. The combination of these stellar talents and the creative minds behind it promises an exhilarating ride that will undoubtedly leave viewers on the edge of their seats.

Occasionally, concepts remain dormant for extended periods before fading away quietly in Hollywood, yet on rare occasions, they progress smoothly. Although the negotiations were only finalized last month, it seems that Guy Ritchie’s new TV series for Showtime and Paramount+ has commenced filming in London already. The show boasts an impressive cast, with Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren taking leading roles (the working title being The Associate)). As per a recent press release from Paramount:

In this production, Hardy is set to portray Harry Da Souza, who serves as a mediator for the powerful Harrigan clan led by Conrad Harrigan, played by Brosnan. This crime family, originating from Ireland and thriving in London, has Maeve Harrigan, skillfully played by Mirren, as their matriarch.

Besides serving as an executive producer, Jez Butterworth is currently riding on the success of his recently premiered CIA thriller for Showtime and Paramount+ titled “The Agency”. Notably, Ronan Bennett has been associated with this project too, and he has also penned scripts for the new “Day of the Jackal” series as well as Michael Mann’s “Public Enemies”. He will also serve as a producer for Ritchie’s upcoming show.

Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren are exceptional in their fields, and it’s a privilege to have them spearhead the cast for Guy Ritchie’s latest original series. According to Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and CEO of SHOWTIME/MTV Entertainment Studios, the combination of Guy Ritchie, Jez Butterworth, and Ronan Bennett’s creative talents, along with these talented actors, promises to create a series that could become another defining brand for Showtime on Paramount Plus.

The logline for the show reads as follows:

A thrilling, fresh international crime show revolves around two powerful families in London, whose businesses span worldwide territories, and the devoted protector tasked with shielding one family above everything else.

Earlier reports from MovieWeb stated that “Guy Ritchie’s film ‘The Associate’, initially planned as a spin-off of the popular Showtime series ‘Ray Donovan’, has undergone a change. Instead, the series is now being developed as a standalone production with no ties to the original franchise.

Ray Donovan was a renowned Showtime production, so it was plausible that Ritchie’s latest venture could be a continuation of that storyline. Nonetheless, since Showtime has been consistently delivering top-notch content following their collaboration with Paramount+, there is high expectation for this new Tom Hardy series by Ritchie to add another accolade to their collection. This anticipation stems from the immense success of his previous TV series, The Gentlemen.

Jeff Grossman, Executive Vice President of programming for Paramount+, stated that the firepower, both on and off-screen, in Guy Ritchie’s new crime series promises an experience that aligns with audience expectations from Paramount + with Showtime: top-notch acting, gripping narratives, and exceptional production quality from industry leaders,” hinting at more details to come about the show. Stay tuned for further updates!
