As a seasoned gamer who has traversed countless virtual worlds and experienced love stories in pixelated realms, I must say that stepping into Lodovico Corsini’s “Flowers of Romance” exhibition was like entering an enchanted dreamscape straight out of my favorite role-playing game. The immersive atmosphere and the surreal blend of artworks have left me spellbound, transporting me from the digital to the tangible realm.
A fresh group exhibition titled “Flowers of Romance” has made its debut at Lodovico Corsini in Brussels, expertly curated by artist and writer Charlie Fox. This captivating exhibition showcases the work of almost two dozen artists, providing a comprehensive look into love’s various aspects. Building upon the presentation of “Day” earlier this autumn, “Act Two” or “Night” delves into the complexities of heartache and fixation, offering visitors a chance to delve into the more somber facets of longing.
Under Oliver Leith’s continuous musical backdrop, the gallery is converted into a surreal landscape – lush green carpeting covers the floor, while rose-tinted windows fill the room with a cloyingly sweet light. The exhibition features snarling puppets resembling dogs and vivid images drenched in acidic hues and emotion, creating an otherworldly atmosphere that envelops viewers in a dreamlike state. This reflects the alluring yet menacing influence of love, as depicted in the art.
As a gamer, I yearned to create an immersive, dreamlike realm where enchanted artifacts would dance and tantalize, much like strolling through a surreal Disney rendition of the Garden of Eden under the influence of psychedelics. This fantastical world would brim with exotic creatures acting bizarrely, peculiar melodies echoing, and lush carpet-like grass beneath my feet, reminiscent of Alice’s journey in “Through the Looking-Glass.
The second act of Flowers of Romance is now on view in Brussels through December 21, 2024.
