Project Mugen now has an official name and teaser trailer as NetEase shows off Ananta

  • Project Mugen now has an official title, and is called Ananta
  • A new PV and teaser trailer show off both gameplay and the new name
  • We get a bigger glimpse of the world, characters and the enemies they face

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen the evolution of RPGs from their humble beginnings to the colossal open-world epics we have today. The latest teaser for Project Mugen, now officially named Ananta, has piqued my interest significantly.

NetEase Games and Naked Rain’s cryptically titled Project Mugen has officially been named “Ananta,” accompanied by a revealing teaser trailer. Positioned as an urban, open-world RPG, the sneak peek offers a slightly clearer picture of what gamers can anticipate when Ananta (formerly known as Project Mugen) launches.

In a recently released sneak peek video, we catch glimpses of Ananta’s narrative, characters, and setting. This sneak peek offers an accurate portrayal of what’s promised: expansive urban landscapes like Nova City to traverse, a multifaceted ensemble of characters, and the ever-present peril from entities originating beyond our realm, posing a risk not only to them but also us; as turmoil caused by Chaos escalates.

It’s noteworthy that while there are certainly some similarities between NetEase’s latest project and MiHoYo’s extensive library, particularly Zenless Zone Zero, there are also distinct differences, particularly in the movement aspect. However, Ananta appears to offer the blend of adorable characters and thrilling combat that has become commonplace in today’s 3D RPGs.

From place-to-place

In watching the PV, what really caught my attention were instances of remarkable motion, which made me wonder if the cityscape will be segmented (maybe between streets and rooftops) or if NetEase and Naked Rain aim to create some acrobatic Spider-Man-style movement and urban exploration with Ananta.

Absolutely, I’ve made similar comparisons between Ananta and MiHoYo’s Hoyoverse, particularly titles like Genshin Impact. However, it’s important to note that NetEase isn’t the first to attempt replicating their success. The intriguing aspect is whether Ananta can establish its unique identity and potentially outrank the current rulers in the 3D gacha RPG realm.

In case you’re looking for something to fill the gap before Ananta’s launch, allow me to modestly propose taking a look at?
