Ben Stiller reflects on the original conception of “Severance”, noting that his initial vision for the project was quite distinct from its final form.

Before the premiere of season two, produced by Dan Erikson and helmed by Stiller as both director and executive producer, the versatile personality made a visit to the set of Hot Ones.

Originally, the series had its roots in comedy due to its workplace setting, but it quickly evolved into something much more peculiar and slightly unnerving, as the creator explained to Sean Evans. As the show progressed, it grew increasingly bizarre and less comedic than initially anticipated.

Contrary to its thrilling appearance, this production has a base in light-hearted workplace humor. In simpler terms, it’s much like popular sitcoms such as ‘The Office’ or ‘Parks and Recreation’. As Stiller explained, these shows played a significant role in shaping the essence of our production.

Although Stiller has been focusing more on work behind the camera compared to in front of it, when The Hollywood Reporter asked if he’d be open to guest starring in Severance season two, the versatile figure in acting, directing, and producing playfully hinted, “Who knows what might happen?

In a chat with Vanity Fair, Stiller admitted that the upcoming episodes will need to address some lingering mysteries from season one.

He shared his enthusiasm with the media, expressing how thrilled he was to have reached this point. He explained that creating a second season is unique because you’re aware there’s an audience eagerly watching. This awareness has influenced their work throughout, making them mindful of the details they present. His hope is that viewers will notice the connections and unconnected elements, as well as the new threads to follow in this season.

Apart from his responsibilities as director and producer on the Emmy-winning series, he is additionally co-hosting a companion podcast alongside Adam Scott.
