Crunchyroll, Sony Pictures to Release ‘Attack on Titan: The Last Attack’ in North American Cinemas

As a die-hard fan of the anime genre, I’ve been following Attack on Titan since its inception in 2014. The suspense, the action, and the emotional depth have kept me hooked for years. So, when I heard about Attack on Titan: The Last Attack coming to theaters, my heart skipped a beat!

Streaming platform Crunchyroll has acquired theatrical rights for North America and certain international regions for the epic dark fantasy movie titled “Attack on Titan: The Last Attack“. Crunchyroll announced this news at CCXP (previously Comic Con Experience) in São Paulo, Brazil. They describe it as a “cinematic event” that brings together the final episodes of the extremely popular anime series into one massive film.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment are teaming up for an upcoming movie project! Being part of the Sony family, we’re excitedly planning to drop this flick in early 2025. Can’t wait to see it unfold on the big screen!

The Last Assault” was crafted by director Yûichirô Hayashi, inspired by the initial concept of manga creator Hajime Isayama.

The initial animated series debuted back in 2014, spanning four captivating seasons that concluded in autumn 2023. It has managed to win both fans and critics, receiving universal acclaim. Impressively, three of its seasons boast a perfect 100% score from critics and over 90% approval from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

In the captivating tale of “Attack on Titan,” the narrative unfolds in a realm where humankind has fortified itself within towering walls as a defense against terrifying beings known as Titans. For nearly a century, they have enjoyed tranquility, until an assault on their city claims a mother’s life and leaves a determined youth, Eren Yeager, seeking vengeance against these monstrous creatures. After enlisting in the Survey Corps, Eren encounters a lethal adversary and eventually acquires a unique power that reveals shocking secrets about his world.

As a gamer, I’m thoroughly enjoying “The Last Attack,” which is brought to life by the talented team at Mappa, based in Tokyo. The captivating characters are designed by Tomohiro Kishi, while Kuniaki Nemoto lends his artistic vision as the art director. Daisuke Niinuma takes on the role of chief animation director, ensuring every frame is a masterpiece.

Over the past few years, Crunchyroll and SPE have been increasing their release of high-quality anime titles in cinemas, capitalizing on the growing global interest in the Japanese animation genre. Among their upcoming projects is “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle”, the final installments in the successful Demon Slayer franchise, set to hit theaters next year as a trilogy of films.
