Superman And Lois’ Unused, ‘Full’ Steel Suit Just Got Revealed, And Now I’m More Upset About Season 4 Getting Hit With Major Budget Cuts

As a die-hard fan who’s been following Superman‘s adventures since the days of George Reeves and Christopher Reeve, let me tell you, the finale of Superman & Lois left me with a bittersweet feeling. On one hand, I was thrilled to see the characters get the endings they deserved, but on the other, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment at what could have been.

First off, let me express my feelings upfront: I thoroughly enjoyed the final episode of Superman & Lois and how it wrapped up each character’s storyline. However, I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed that Elizabeth Tulloch’s idea for that crucial Lois Lane scene wasn’t implemented in the end. Furthermore, it’s frustrating that the showrunners’ initial seven-season plan didn’t come to pass due to budget cuts by The CW during Season 4. My dissatisfaction has grown even more after seeing the unused Steel suit that Superman & Lois star Wolé Parks unveiled, which would have added a lot to the season.

Hailing from another universe and originally determined to kill this universe’s Superman after seeing the destruction the Superman of his reality unleashed, Parks’ John Henry ultimately followed in his comic book counterpart’s footsteps and became one of the Man of Steel’s closest allies. Unfortunately, John Henry never donned a more comics-accurate Steel suit during the show’s run outside of a quick scene in the series finale, but Parks shared on his Instagram that such a suit was indeed constructed for Superman & Lois:

In the final moments of “It Went By So Fast,” although John Henry Irons was momentarily seen in a different Steel suit while flying alongside his daughter Natalie, Clark, Jonathan, and Jordan (with the latter two eventually donning their own costumes), it’s plausible that we might have encountered this new design on Superman & Lois. Indeed, the suit portrayed in this article served its purpose effectively across four seasons for both John Henry and Lex Luthor briefly. However, notice how remarkably similar its successor appears to Steel’s comic book attire.

Unfortunately, due to budget constraints for Season 4 of Superman & Lois, they were unable to present a more authentic Iron Man (Steel) suit on screen, as they had planned. Despite the limited resources, the series had already excelled in incorporating aspects of John Henry Irons from the comics and blending them with original content. Showing this armor in its full splendor in episodes would have been an excellent addition. Still, at least we can all appreciate that this adaptation of Steel surpassed the character’s live-action debut in 1997.

You won’t get to witness Wolé Parks as Steel anymore, but you can revisit his past adventures by streaming the first three seasons of “Superman & Lois” with a Max subscription. Soon enough, we’ll delve back into the world of Superman in live-action again, as James Gunn’s “Superman”, part of the new DC Universe franchise, is slated to hit the big screen on July 11, 2025.
