I Know Arcane Is Over, But I Have Hope That One Character’s Death Isn’t True

As a die-hard fan of video games who’s spent countless hours in the world of League of Legends, I can’t help but feel a deep connection to the characters and their stories – especially the enigmatic Jinx. Having witnessed her tumultuous journey through the harrowing streets of Piltover and Zaun, I find it hard not to be captivated by her resilience and unyielding spirit.

Okay, it’s been nearly two weeks; let’s talk about Arcane.

If you’re familiar with me, you’d know I’m an ardent admirer of this particular series. The long-awaited second season made its debut on Netflix, as per the 2024 television lineup, and consistently ranked high every week. Viewers were thrilled with the culmination of the last season – to some extent, but let’s delve into that later on.

After Arcane has concluded, there are numerous other shows similar to it that you might find intriguing. However, I’m finding it hard to move on from the demise of a particular character in the series, leaving me pondering their true fate – frankly, I don’t believe they met their end.

Without a doubt, if you haven’t quite finished watching Arcane, be aware that the following contains spoilers from Season 2. However, if you have already seen it, feel free to continue reading.

Let Me Preface This By Saying I Don’t Mind The Deaths In The Show

I am the biggest supporter of deaths in a TV show, and anyone I know can stand by that.

Wow, there’s nothing quite like being moved by television series that create a lasting impression through significant character departures, sending shockwaves across the storyline. There are simply too many memorable instances to count.

In the TV series The 100 on Netflix, Octavia’s transformation into a relentless assassin and formidable warrior was set off by Lincoln’s death. Similarly, Hershel’s death in The Walking Dead ignited an entire war that culminated in one of the group’s most secure sanctuaries. Lastly, the Red Wedding in Game of Thrones had a profound impact, and it’s not hard to understand why – it’s one of the most memorable moments in GOT history.

With the arrival of Arcane Season 2, it becomes clear why many of the main characters meet their demise. Although I’m saddened by the show’s conclusion, Christian Linke shared in an interview that they aimed to avoid overextending the narrative of Arcane, a common pitfall among other television series. Instead, they strived for a complete, satisfying story, and it appears they achieved just that.

In Season 2, several deaths carry significant weight, and among them are the ones of Jayce, Viktor, Ambessa, and even Vander’s apparent demise in his Warwick form twice. However, one death from that season left me doubtful.

And it’s Jinx.

I Really Don’t Think Jinx Is Dead – For One Big Reason

When I initially witnessed Arcane, I enthusiastically labeled Jinx as the most captivating TV villain, but as the story unfolded, my perspective has significantly shifted. Now, I view her less as a villain and more as an ultimate, tragic antihero who, regrettably, resorted to horrific acts. By the climax of Season 2, she convincingly reclaims her position among the relatively good people.

Okay, maybe not good, but she does save a lot of people with her sister.

At the end of the final scene, she appears to plunge into the Hexgate Tower with a grenade, apparently sacrificing herself to eliminate Warwick-Vander and ensure Vi’s survival. The explosion occurs, but there are numerous clues suggesting that she may have found a way to survive – many of these hints actually align with logical reasoning.

The most notable aspect about Jinx is her exceptional abilities. Due to the Shimmer in her bloodstream, she can evade attacks and reach speeds that are unusually fast for a human. A notable example is the explosion when she falls with Warwick-Vander, which features a streak of pink radiating outward.

Jinx’s explosions are typically a mix of blue and purple, yet occasionally they appear pink, which might indicate her using her Shimmer abilities to evade or avoid the blast.

It’s clear you’re wondering where Jinx might have gone if she survived. The answer to your question is hinted at in the scene with Caitlyn. She’s seen examining a non-functional Jinx grenade and studying blueprints of the Hexgate Tower. Upon closer inspection, she identifies potential escape routes such as ducts and vents located at the tower’s base. To add insult to injury, this woman even smirks, implying she has a good idea that Jinx managed to slip away somehow.

It’s not merely a repetition; the Piltover sheriff’s reappearance hints at something more. Shrewd viewers might interpret this as a suggestion that perhaps Jinx survived, a subtle foreshadowing in the storyline.

I Also Think There’s Room For More Story With Her In The New Spinoffs

Previously mentioned, Arcane has reached its conclusion and there won’t be a new season in the pipeline. However, co-creator Christian Linke is brimming with concepts for his future projects, and he’s often spoken about potential spinoffs as well.

It’s possible that characters who are still alive might make a return appearance, given the vastness of the League of Legends universe and the potential for crossovers, particularly if Jinx survives. The final scene of the show depicts one of those flying ships passing over the sea, leaving us uncertain about who is on board. In fact, at the outset of the series, Jinx herself expressed her intention to someday ride one of these ships.

If this isn’t hinting at a significant change, I’m not sure what would be. It seems she might be venturing into uncharted territory, distancing herself from Piltover, and forging a new path to bring happiness to Vi and Jinx. What an intriguing way to wrap up her story! This could potentially pave the way for a spin-off series or tale.

If She Is Dead, I Suppose I Can Be Fine With It – But I’ll Be Delusional ‘Till Then

As a gamer, let me make this clear: I’m at peace with the fact that Jinx is no more. However, it’s not like our memories from Season 2 don’t linger. We witnessed countless attempts by Jinx to take her own life, following the loss of Isha. If not for Ekko’s timely intervention, she might have succeeded. In this fictional universe, perhaps this is what she desired – a release from the agony and suffering that Piltover has inflicted upon her.

However, a delusional part of me really wants her to be alive.

As I ponder over these hints, I can’t help but feel they’re too obvious to be mere coincidences. Deep down, I truly believe that there’s a strong possibility that Jinx is still alive somewhere out there. May fortune smile upon her and guide her towards the happiness she deserves. Stranger things have happened in the world of League of Legends, after all.

As a gamer, it always leaves me questioning: “If they’re not visible on the screen, are they truly vanquished?” Since Jinx isn’t showing up on my radar, I can’t help but wonder…

No matter what follows Arcane, many video games could potentially make excellent TV series, yet none will ever hold the same dear spot in my heart as this one does – and I wholeheartedly stand by my imaginings until they are disproven.
