As a movie enthusiast who grew up during the golden age of post-apocalyptic cinema, I can’t help but feel like a kid in a candy store upon seeing the first trailer for “28 Years Later.” With its gritty visuals and haunting atmosphere, this sequel to one of my all-time favorite horror films promises to deliver a thrilling journey into the world that was left shattered by the Rage Virus.
As a movie enthusiast, I’ve eagerly anticipated this moment for almost two decades – stepping back into the enraged, post-apocalyptic landscape in the first trailer for director Danny Boyle’s long-awaited horror sequel titled . Picking up from where 2002’s critically acclaimed 28 Days Later and its 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later left off, 28 Years Later will finally unveil the fate of our world following the catastrophic outbreak of the Rage Virus and the “zombies” that emerged.

As a dedicated cinephile, I can’t help but express my excitement for the upcoming film, “28 Years Later,” masterfully directed by Danny Boyle, with the brilliant screenplay penned alongside Alex Garland. This cinematic marvel features an exceptional ensemble cast, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Edvin Ryding.
‘28 Years Later’ Is the Beginning of a New Horror Trilogy
It’s often the case, isn’t it? For nearly 20 years, we’ve been waiting for a sequel to “28 Days Later“, and now, not one but three have emerged. The upcoming movie next year, “28 Years Later“, is expected to initiate a fresh trilogy for the franchise. Alex Garland, who transitioned from writing to directing, has long been trying to revive the series. Interestingly, he disclosed that a “complete concept” for a new set of three movies suddenly popped into his mind.
“A whole idea for a trilogy just sort of came – bing! – into my head. It makes me really question what creativity is. I feel like an observer, a lot of the time.”
It’s been verified that the trilogy plan is valid, as producer Andrew Macdonald has announced. He, along with Danny Boyle and their team, will immediately move on to creating the sequel, titled “28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple“. This upcoming project is set to be directed by Nia DaCosta, who’s known for her work on “Candyman” and “The Marvels”.
We plan to produce an additional three films in the series, with the first one titled “28 Years Later,” which Alex has written and Danny has directed and completed filming. Tomorrow morning, we’ll begin work on part two of the series. If all goes well, there will be a third film, completing a trilogy.
Originally launched in the year 2002, “28 Days Later” was brought to life by Danny Boyle from a screenplay penned by Alex Garland. The film features Cillian Murphy in one of his breakout roles. The narrative revolves around a bike messenger who wakes up from a coma, only to discover that a lethal virus has swept through London, transforming its inhabitants into mindless assailants. “28 Days Later” was praised by critics for its innovative take on the zombie genre, leading to a sequel, “28 Weeks Later,” which hit the screens in 2007. This second installment follows the journey of a brother and sister as they try to survive in this brutal new world.
