Aaron Taylor-Johnson on Future of ‘Kraven the Hunter’: “You’re Going to Want to See Him Go On”

As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast with over two decades of immersive experiences under my belt, I can confidently say that Aaron Taylor-Johnson‘s portrayal of Kraven the Hunter seems promising. The hype surrounding this character has been building for years, and I’m excited to finally see him in action.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson will portray Kraven the Hunter, joining the ranks of Venom, Morbius, and Madame Web who have previously brought to life characters from Spider-Man’s villainous universe, as they delve into the backstory of one of the world’s most feared hunters.

Prior to the film’s premiere, the creative team is already contemplating the character’s potential future, given that it has faced some uncertainties following underwhelming ticket sales, notably from Madame Web. This uncertainty also stems from Sony’s plans regarding its Marvel characters as a whole.

The initial film we have here is for everyone’s enjoyment – do come watch it, I believe by the end, you’ll be eager to see more of it,” Taylor-Johnson said at the movie’s New York premiere on Tuesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s now in your hands; decide its fate.” Similarly, Director J.C. Chandor added, “Let’s hope this film finds success, and if it does, there are many exciting directions he could take next.

In an additional remark, the director mentioned that despite the challenges, he approached this tale just as he has with every other movie he’s ever created – by striving to produce the finest film possible, crafting compelling characters, recruiting top talent, and telling a captivating story. He believes that when audiences (touching wood) view it, they will recognize the hard work put into it and appreciate it as a well-made, little gem of a movie.

In this endeavor, Taylor-Johnson is joined by Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, and Alessandro Nivola. The role of the merciless father who sets the character on a journey of retribution is taken by Russell Crowe.

The star expressed that working with Crowe was simply extraordinary. He went on to say, ‘Crowe is a living legend, I admire him deeply. As a child, I was a fan of his work, and that hasn’t changed. In this film, he delivers a remarkable performance, perfectly embodying menace – exactly how one wants to see Russell Crowe. He portrays my father in the movie, and our confrontational scenes were a once-in-a-lifetime experience.’

This R-rated film includes numerous stunts, including a scene where Taylor-Johnson is pulled through the River Thames by a helicopter underwater – an absurd feat! To prepare for this sequence, we underwent a week-long training program for underwater work. It was quite intense, but that’s just one of the many action-packed moments in the movie.

Kraven the Hunter hits theaters on Friday.
