I Went To Disneyland And Tried Their New Holiday Experiences. One Was Better Than The Other

As a lifelong Disney enthusiast and Southern California resident, I can confidently say that this holiday season has been truly enchanting! The introduction of Mickey’s Holiday Pajama Party and the Holiday Tea with Santa and Mrs. Claus at Disney’s Grand California Hotel have added a delightful twist to my annual tradition of visiting Disneyland during the holidays.

Visiting Disneyland during holidays is always enchanting. There’s an abundance of festive decorations, parades, seasonal treats, and access to top-notch rides that make each visit special. However, despite the excitement, the offerings often don’t see much change from one year to the next, making it challenging for regular park visitors like me to discover something fresh and exciting.

It’s great news that the Mouse House has addressed our concerns and rolled out two fresh holiday dining options this year. These include a pajama-themed brunch with Mickey and his friends, and tea time with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. The best part is, you can enjoy these experiences at Disney’s Grand California Hotel, so you don’t need a theme park ticket to be a part of it!

Being a native resident, I felt it was essential to check out these two eagerly awaited events, and by a stroke of luck, secured advance bookings for both. Having experienced them firsthand, I must confess that one clearly surpasses the other in quality.

Mickey’s Holiday Pajama Party Is Great For Fans Of Character Dining

This holiday season, the Storyteller’s Cafe at the Grand California Hotel has emerged as a popular dining destination, emulating the charm of Goofy’s Kitchen from Disneyland. Unlike regular days, the restaurant is now hosting character encounters with Mickey and friends in their pajamas – an unprecedented event for guests. Typically, the characters only appeared in their sleepwear on Christmas Eve night as guests exited Disneyland after park closure.

Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale, and Pluto don their jolly holiday nightgowns, visiting every table for personal encounters. They additionally stroll about the eatery in rhythm with the music.

Absolutely, the food is fantastic as well! Since it was brunch time, they had a buffet that divided its options: one half catered to popular breakfast items such as Mickey-shaped waffles, and the other half focused on typical lunch dishes.

Holiday Tea With Santa And Mrs. Claus is Perfect For Getting In The Holiday Spirit

Right outside the Grand California Hotel’s grand entrance, visitors can enjoy a high tea session with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus in the Hearthstone Lounge. With three different options to select, guests will indulge in holiday-themed finger sandwiches and sweets while savoring various types of loose-leaf teas.

Indeed, what truly made this event special for me was having the opportunity to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, especially since you can’t find a formal meet and greet with her elsewhere. Not only did I have a conversation with them and take photos, but the setup was quite intimate as each table was summoned individually. This allowed for a more personal experience without the pressure of parents waiting in line behind me, eagerly nudging me through the encounter.

Santa Claus and his wife, Mrs. Claus, additionally visit each table, initiating a lively singing event that served as an enjoyable extra.

Both Options Are Great, But The Pajama Party Is Just A Little Bit Better

Let me clarify, I enjoyed myself at both events, but having experienced both, I can comfortably assert that the Pajama Party takes the cake as my preferred option among these recent experiences. Before making this choice, let me mention that I’m not much of a tea drinker and usually spend more time meeting characters than riding attractions in the park.

Regardless of my biases, the pajama party had a better environment, food offerings, and price. Even the cheapest tea time option is nearly $20 more than the buffet, which grants you unlimited access to some of the best food options. While both offered priceless character interactions, you really can’t beat meeting Mickey and his friends from the comfort of your table.

If fortune favors you, you’ll find that reservations for Mickey’s Pajama Party are still open, should you decide to take a holiday journey to the Disneyland Resort.
