Did you know Manoj Bajpayee was taken to salon immediately after he stepped into Mumbai? Director Pankaj Parashar spills beans

As an ardent admirer of Manoj Bajpayee’s artistry, I find his journey to stardom nothing short of inspiring. The tale of a man who didn’t have the means to fly down to Mumbai, yet graced our screens with such profound performances, is a testament to his unwavering passion for acting.

Currently, Manoj Bajpayee is recognized as one of the highly-sought-after actors in India’s film industry. His exceptional acting talent has earned him numerous awards such as the National Film Award and Padma Shri. However, there was a period when he lacked the funds to travel to Mumbai. Remarkably, upon finally reaching the city of dreams, his initial destination was not the glamorous sets of films, but rather a salon.

During an interview with Siddharth Kannan, filmmaker Pankaj Parashar shared that he played a significant part in bringing Manoj Bajpayee from Delhi to Mumbai. Speaking about his association with The Family Man star, Parashar mentioned that it was Anubhav Sinha, the director of Ra.One, who suggested Manoj to him, praising him as an actor comparable to Naseeruddin Shah’s caliber.

Ultimately, the director of Jalwa consented and requested Sinha to contact him in Mumbai. Since the actor from Sonchiriya didn’t have enough money for a flight, they suggested he borrow some and make his way to the city. On the day when the renowned actor arrived in Mumbai, Anubhav went to greet him at the airport. However, upon seeing Bajpayee, he remarked, “We’ll need to take you to the beauty salon first.

As an ardent admirer, I couldn’t help but be part of the magic. So, Sinha whisked him off straight to a salon. “They’ll give him a shampoo and facial first,” Parashar explained. Then, he was escorted to my humble abode. When the master filmmaker laid eyes on Manoj for the first time, his immediate thought was ‘Is there an angle from which he resembles Naseer?’ Yet, he invited him to join us starting from Monday.

In the same conversation, Pankaj mentioned his encounter with Anubhav Sinha, the director of IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. He reminisced about an incident during a children’s film shoot when actor Raghubir Yadav introduced a young man to him, expressing his desire to assist Pankaj. However, Pankaj declined as he already had several assistants at that time.

However, Sinha remained resolute and refused to abandon the film set. When Pankaj Parashar noticed him lingering at the end of the workday, he requested him to give a clap for his production – marking Sinha’s start as an assistant. Later on, when the director of ChaalBaaz was preparing for a series, he informed Sinha that they had already cast Sanjay Mishra and were still seeking another actor. This is how Sinha became involved with Parashar’s projects.

In this instance, Sinha mentioned that there’s an individual in Delhi who possesses acting skills comparable to Naseeruddin Shah. When his posters are displayed, the theaters fill up completely, yet he doesn’t own a phone. Since no one was available at the time, Pankaj ultimately asked Anubhav to contact Manoj in Mumbai, and the story continues from there.
