As a seasoned gamer and a keen observer of pop culture, I find myself both appalled and disheartened by the latest developments surrounding Sean “Diddy” Combs. Over the years, I’ve learned to appreciate the artistry and creativity that artists like him bring into our lives, but it’s hard not to be disappointed when those same individuals are entangled in such distressing allegations.
Today, three individuals filed three independent civil lawsuits in New York, alleging that they were drugged and sexually assaulted by Sean “Diddy” Combs in separate recent occurrences. Meanwhile, the incarcerated music tycoon was given a laptop for legal purposes in the federal prison where he is currently being detained, prior to his upcoming trial.
According to Judge Arun Subramanian’s decision, rapper Sean Combs will be granted permission to use a computer that has been prepared with evidence relevant to his upcoming trial on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. The court order specifies that he can access the files from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. This request for computer access was made by Combs’ legal team after his third denial of bail in late November.
Three lawsuits, each detailing sexual assaults from 2019 to 2022, were filed on Thursday, and what makes them notable isn’t just the consistency in the accounts of Combs’ interactions with each man or the timeframe of the alleged incidents, but also because they weren’t filed by an attorney linked to Houston lawyer Tony Buzbee. Unlike other civil lawsuits against the accused magnate, this new set is being handled by a different legal firm.
The grievances they’ve lodged are brimming with fabrications. We aim to expose these as baseless and impose penalties on any lawyer acting unprofessionally who has submitted bogus allegations against him,” Combs’ legal team said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
One of the unnamed individuals mentioned in court documents declared that he attended the Marquee nightclub in New York alongside Combs and a group of ten people in 2019. During an afterparty, this individual asserted that the rapper himself gave him a cocktail. As he began to feel dizzy from the drink, the accuser reportedly overheard what they claimed were ominous remarks attributed to Combs, allegedly made in the presence of others in the room.
“He is ready to party,” the plaintiff claims Combs said.
The person filing the lawsuit stated that he briefly lost awareness and perceived a man and woman videotaping him while he was being violently raped by Combs. Upon regaining consciousness, this individual asserted that he was given $2,500 by the same pair who were said to have filmed the assault. The alleged victim claimed they were informed that the money came directly from Combs.
In the summer of 2020, a second complainant alleged that he encountered Combs at his East Hampton residence. Following what was supposed to be a cocktail laced with alcohol provided by Combs, the individual lost consciousness. As he regained and lost awareness, he claimed to have witnessed Combs and several individuals from Bad Boys Entertainment, taking turns sexually assaulting him, as detailed in the filing. The document described Combs’ actions as “extremely shocking and offensive,” going beyond the limits of decency.
In a court filing, the third person suing (the plaintiff) stated that he initially met Combs in 2006 when he started working for him, performing various tasks. He alleged that he encountered Combs again at the InterContinental Hotel in New York City in February 2020 to discuss outstanding payments. The man recounted that Combs offered him a drink and suggested he lie down when he wasn’t feeling well. Upon waking up, he found himself on his stomach with his pants pulled down, being assaulted by Combs. The plaintiff claimed he was threatened that he would appear foolish if he reported the incident to authorities.
An email dispatched to lawyer Thomas Giuffra, acting on behalf of the anonymous parties John Does, didn’t get an instant response. In conversation with ABC News, Giuffra mentioned that he found the resemblances observed across the cases striking.
He often found himself in a predictable situation: attending a meeting, having a drink, becoming disoriented, waking up to be violated by Sean Combs, and then being escorted out. This reminded him of something, as he explained to ABC News’ Aaron Katersky. He was reached out to by over 60 individuals. However, he decided to only file complaints against these three because they all shared a consistent pattern with how Sean Combs operated.
The resemblance between these instances and past civil lawsuits against Combs is remarkably consistent, particularly with claims made by Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones. His explosive accusations in a court filing earlier this year sparked widespread conjecture about the mogul’s lifestyle and parties, which have continued to stir up discussions without abating.
The situation is analogous to another lawsuit’s narrative, as told by the plaintiff in a recent interview with CNN. However, this conversation uncovered some discrepancies in his account of the events involving Combs, prompting Buzbee’s law firm to modify their legal complaint by adjusting crucial details such as the year of the alleged incident and whether or not the plaintiff was married at that time.
On September 16, the influential figure was taken into custody and indicted for racketeering conspiring and human trafficking activities. At present, he’s detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn and will stay there till his court hearing scheduled for May.
On September 17th, Combs denied the accusations made against him in a federal court in Manhattan.
