As a 90’s kid who grew up with the antics of the Wilkerson family entertaining my weekend evenings, this news about the Malcolm in the Middle revival has me jumping for joy! I can still remember the chaos and humor that filled each episode, and the characters have left an indelible mark on my heart. The original cast returning is like welcoming old friends back home, and I’m eager to see how they navigate the ups and downs of family life in their 40th wedding anniversary party.
It’s been confirmed that the popular TV show “Malcolm in the Middle” is being brought back to life, with production happening at Disney+.
According to Variety, it’s reported that the show “Malcolm in the Middle” is making a comeback. The original creator, Linwood Boomer, will be back, along with Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek reprising their roles as the Wilkerson family members – Malcolm, Hal, and Lois respectively. In essence, the storyline goes like this: Malcolm (Muniz) is pulled into his family’s antics once more when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) request his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.
The upcoming revival will feature a total of four new episodes.
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, remarked that ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ was a groundbreaking sitcom that effectively conveyed family life through humor, emotion, and relatability. The show’s portrayal of a disorganized yet endearing family struck a chord with viewers of all ages, and we are thrilled to have the original cast return to recreate this special connection. With Linwood Boomer and the creative team leading the way, these upcoming episodes will bring back the laughter, practical jokes, and chaos that fans cherished, as well as some unexpected twists to remind us why this series remains so enduring.
Karey Burke, president of 20th Television, stated that when “Malcolm in the Middle” initially aired two decades back, it revolutionized the television comedy genre by setting new standards for what was possible within it. When Linwood Boomer proposed reviving the beloved dysfunctional family for a reunion, there was no more fitting or influential series to reconsider, especially with such an exceptional cast to reunite once again.
The original series spanned 7 seasons, airing a total of 151 episodes from 2000 to 2006. During this time, Christopher Kennedy Masterson, Justin Berfield, and Erik Per Sullivan portrayed the Wilkerson brothers Francis, Reese, and Dewey respectively. The show was ultimately recognized with seven Emmy Awards.
