As a die-hard fan who’s been through the emotional rollercoaster that is the Buffyverse, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension at the prospect of a reboot. Sarah Michelle Gellar has always been adamant about preserving the pristine image of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and who could blame her? The original series was nothing short of groundbreaking and iconic.
Initially, Sarah Michelle Gellar might have resisted the concept of a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot, but her views appear to have shifted positively on this subject in recent times.
On a recent visit to The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress currently featured in Dexter: Original Sin was queried about the possibility of resurrecting her popular series in some form, by the show’s host.
Funny thing, I’ve always been a firm no, as it seemed untouchable, nestled in its own perfection. But after binge-watching the sequel series of Sex and the City, titled And Just Like That, and catching up with Dexter, I’ve come to realize that there are indeed ways to revisit these stories. This definitely sparked thoughts like, “Well, maybe…” in me.
She didn’t specify it as a prequel, instead saying, “It could be anything,” the actress expressed. “It’s a whole universe. It underscores the fact that in our current world, heroes are needed perhaps even more urgently than before.

According to Movieweb in 2022, it was reported that the star of Cruel Intentions dismissed the possibility of reprising her character as the main character in any future projects, as discussed during an interview with SFX Magazine.
She expressed her immense pride in the series they produced and feels it stands complete. However, she’s enthusiastic about the storyline being further developed due to its strong theme of female empowerment. She adores how the show concluded with the message, “Every girl who has the power can have the power.” It’s poised perfectly for another character to wield that power. Yet, as she mentioned earlier, Buffy’s metaphors symbolized the trials of adolescence. Despite appearing youthful, she clarified that she is not an adolescent herself.
Apart from the prequel series of Dexter, Gellar has also appeared in the latest installments of Teen Wolf (known as the revival), Wolf Pack, and Do Revenge.
The popular TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” which aired from 1997 to 2003, was based on the 1992 movie of the same title featuring Kristy Swanson. In this show, Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character Buffy Summers battled vampires, demons, and other evil entities, with assistance from her friends.
